I know this thread is about 6 years old but I've been watching videos with him commentating and I have to say that if wit were s**t he'd be constipated. Totally not funny, using the kind of humour I left behind when I was about 7.

To each his own, I guess. Americans probably find it funny but then they do live in their own little bubble.

Because humor isn't subjective, or anything.

Haven't read the full thread, but just encountered Stapleton's commentary on an episode of EPT. It's very bad. Part of it may be down to whoever's writing his scripts, but the delivery sounds stilted as well. It reminds me of the type of jokes that appear in commercials during NFL. Not even Super Bowl level commercials, just regular season games.

Here's an example: "It's nobody's first rodeo. It's not a rodeo at all. It's a poker tournament, which is why I sent the clown home." (Stapleton responding to his own earlier comment that "This ain't [Lodden's] first rodeo") This is the sense of humor of a marketing executive at Old Spice.

I don't think he's funny at all.

When it comes to commentary, here's what I remember from a recent game (memory lapses would be my own):

Mustapha Kanit was in a hand with a growing multi-way pot with KK at a Final Table.

Stapleton, being too busy with his inane and unfunny comments, a few seconds later after the hand had to say "I hadn't noticed Kanit could have busted out of the FT on this hand".

So, to recap: the guy is unfunny, can't do Poker commentary at all, so you have to ask yourself why is he even put on this shows and why for instance did the GPL took him to make commentary and Twitch interaction (too much talking over the players in The Cube, doesn't know how to interact well with Twitch viewers).

The marketing execs at Old Spice have much more humour than him: check out the 'Be a Man, man' campaign - that was hilarious.

Give us commentary by a Jason Somerville/JCarver any day: spot-on game commentary, genuinely funny and knows and manages his Twitch memes and Twitch dynamics effortlessly. ElkY is also super funny.

The clown who needs to be sent home is Stapleton IMO.

He's corny but that's ok, it's got to be tough doing hours and hours of tape and trying to be funny all the time.

Exception the proves the rule I guess. Stop hating, he strikes a great balance between being entertaining and knowing poker. No one better than Stapes IMO except some top notch player commentating (like Ike).

I don't care for him either. I can handle some corniness every now and then but he just seems to force it. Also, this is not "hating" this is just merely stating an opinion. Not wish h I'll will, just not a fan.
Plus, quit saying "don't be a hater" unless you're a 12 year old.

Stapleton is not funny. I actually mute EPT videos now when I watch them just because that tired old shtick of his is so ***** played out.

I don't think Stapleton is funny in the least. And I think Norman Chad knows more about poker than this goof.

Norman Chad is not funny in the slightest, he knows almost nothing about serious poker, and yet he is still a thousand times more watchable than Stapleton.

Stapes is pretty hit and miss for me, but he definitely makes EPT high rollers filled with stoic players who take awhile to act more entertaining to watch. He does throw some eye-rollers out there no doubt, but I think he's pretty damn funny most of the time.

The poker color commentating GOAT, though? Norman Chad. No outs.

I can see how people don't think he's funny. People with little sense of humour; pop culture over the past 30 years or people who doesn't speak teh English well.

Joe's one liners are something I look forward to.

best part about stapes is when he drops in HIT THEM WITH THE HEIN! (howard stern reference) and know-one seems to notice/ pick up on it yet...
