Re: Boom documentary

We are about 2 months away from finishing, after which we'll be taking the movie to film festivals in order to secure distribution (so every1 can see it easily!)

We plan on marketing the movie pretty hard when the time comes, but in the meantime you can follow me on Twitter to get the latest infos

Re: Boom documentary

Yea I've been waiting on this one for a while, too bad in the meantime so much news has been posted about the events and also other documentaries that it won't be much surprising info. Still looking forward to it. That other documentary All-in (i think that was the title) sounded way too biased towards pro-poker which diminishes it's credibility in my eyes. Hope this one is more neutral.

How will foreigners be able to watch this, will it be on the internet in some form, maybe at DC?

Re: Boom documentary

Haven't you seen the trailer released with the new Batman movie? Boom will be released in IMAX theaters near you!..... But seriously, I'm gonna go on a limb here and say that most likely they will offer the movie through Itunes or a site like All-in had where you could buy a digital copy from their site or one-time view etc?

I'm not sure yet, but we intend to reach a worldwide audience. Once we know how to see it we will provide plenty of updates that make it easy for people to know where/when/how to watch!

Re: Boom documentary

I'm curious Krantz, if ur there, what the POV will be on the causes of the Boom. Do you ascribe it all to the interweb and TV, or is the role of NL Holdem seen as being central, as in, the boom would have been much smaller without it?

A close parallel is in Soccer, which has really boomed over the past couple of decades: obviously there are a range of causes, but the rule changes (made in the 80s I think) made the game faster and produced more games, and that's a major cause. It's a much better game to watch now, and not only because of improved coverage, grounds and internet/social media. (They started awarding 3 points for win instead of only two, which made draws less attractive and made everyone try harder, and also reduced the rights of the goalkeeper, so he couldn't pick up the ball when it was passed to him.)

Or do you see it as a poker boom which would have been just as big without NL Holdem as the flagship game, if you are putting any view at all in that regard?

NLHE is certainly the most exciting and dramatic game to watch, and easy to teach to television audiences. I'd bet it fanned the flames, but I'm not sure the boom would have been smaller without it--it seems to me like the explosion of poker was an unstoppable force.

I don't want to spoil much, but we focus more on the WPT, the invention of the hole card cam and Moneymaker, and their convergence with the Internet poker industry.

Just to add to that: we want this film to reach a wide audience. It's a big story and we only have 90 minutes to tell it, so we need to be selective. Focusing specifically on NLHE is a bit too technical, and ultimately unimportant to the overall story. For the general audience, poker is poker (and that generally means NLHE). They don't really care that there are different types of games, and they don't need to in order to follow our story.

I hope you remembered the UK's Late night poker then, whos under the table cams to show hole cards predated both the WPT and the 2003 WSOP by a long shot (and started the poker boom here)

Our story is about the American poker boom. I wish we had enough room for everything but this is a feature film, not a mini-series.
