There is no way Stapleton is improvising all those lines. So i don't think he "immediately thinks of that line when something bad happens".

Don't get me wrong, huge fan here, though.

Maybe we can also compliment those who write these thinks, because i don't think he does it alone (much less improv). Maybe someone with better insight can explain how this work.

He gets to see the footage in advance (though probably not that far in advance) of going into the studio, and uses that time to come up with the lines. He puts a lot of work into it.

Even stand-up comics who appear to be improvising everything on stage seldom do so. Most have their entire gig scripted in advance. It is a VERY rare bird who can do it good seat-of-the-pants.

Personally I think its terrible that PH is considered 'good TV' but this made laugh. Hard.
