This surprised me a little too. But looking at Hendon Mob, Gus's three WPT wins were back before the boom really took off and were all < $600K. WPT winners weren't consistently taking down million-dollar prizes until '04.

Re: All-time Money List -- One-hit Wonder Adjustment

Daniel Negreanu's latest blog entry puts out a request for someone to come up with a money list that doesn't include all the various invitational events. I'm sure OP was on the right track with that list.

Re: All-time Money List -- One-hit Wonder Adjustment

Here's the top 50 of the Hendon Mob's alltime money list WITHOUT any restricted earnings (which are listed for each person). Negreanu's blog mentions that any events that were NOT open events get removed from consideration, he specified:

Senior's
Women's
Poker After Dark
ESPN WSOP Tournament of Champions
WPT Invitational events (Bad Boys of Poker, Poker by the Book, etc)
NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship
Poker Superstars

In compiling the list, I also removed more events, which include PPT events, Monte Carlo Millions (which I believe were invitational), Late Night Poker, All Around points championships, GSN tournaments, and the various Bodog and FTP.net tournaments.
