I agree. If you go through his tweets and the videos from All-in mag it's pretty obvious that everything depended on where he placed at the FT.

I don't think he ever wanted to play poker again and when he realized that he was almost guaranteed to lose the hand if he checked the river and be left short stacked he just panicked. I think there's a pretty good chance Tonking folds if Newhouse checks the turn and shoves the river. He said in the post interview that he wanted to seem like he was milking value from Tonking but then says he could easily have AJ. I don't think anybody would value bet the turn with top pair top kicker in this situation. Given the preflop action, Newhouse wouldn't have A4 suited or pocket 4's so that's out. The only reason you'd take that action on the turn is either you're trying to buy the pot cheap from a floater with two overs (AK, AQ etc.) or you're trying to milk value with the absolute nuts. The problem is, the only thing that Newhouse could really have that fits his action is JJ. Considering he has tons of bluffs in his range and just one combination value hand and the expressed pot odds there's no way Tonking Folds.
He took a 4 month break from poker so maybe that's the reason he didn't think in this spot. It's a shame tho, seems like he's trying to dig himself out of this hole and quit poker for good but he falls short everytime.
I hope one day he won't have to play anymore
