I haven't watched all of this year's coverage yet but I know he said he was not finishing 9th again

In preparation for the November 9, Felix Stephenson and his friends ran 40 or 50 simulations, and Mark Newhouse finished 9th in every one.

But thats never has to be a reason to back down, ever.

There's a difference between heart, and being reckless aggressive. Newhouse knew he had a rep (table image), and unfortunately never capitalized on it during the Final Table.

I agree. If you go through his tweets and the videos from All-in mag it's pretty obvious that everything depended on where he placed at the FT.

I don't think he ever wanted to play poker again and when he realized that he was almost guaranteed to lose the hand if he checked the river and be left short stacked he just panicked. I think there's a pretty good chance Tonking folds if Newhouse checks the turn and shoves the river. He said in the post interview that he wanted to seem like he was milking value from Tonking but then says he could easily have AJ. I don't think anybody would value bet the turn with top pair top kicker in this situation. Given the preflop action, Newhouse wouldn't have A4 suited or pocket 4's so that's out. The only reason you'd take that action on the turn is either you're trying to buy the pot cheap from a floater with two overs (AK, AQ etc.) or you're trying to milk value with the absolute nuts. The problem is, the only thing that Newhouse could really have that fits his action is JJ. Considering he has tons of bluffs in his range and just one combination value hand and the expressed pot odds there's no way Tonking Folds.

He took a 4 month break from poker so maybe that's the reason he didn't think in this spot. It's a shame tho, seems like he's trying to dig himself out of this hole and quit poker for good but he falls short everytime.

I hope one day he won't have to play anymore

Newhouse wouldn't call with a small pocket pair like fours preflop? Given Tonking's stack and standard preflop reraise, I think calling to hit a set and stack off is possible.

I think the decider in Tonking's call was that aces or kings was not likely, given Newhouse's turn bet. Overpairs would check down the river presumably, once the board double paired. And Newhouse would not have raised the turn with A-J and a single jack on the board (which would also be a pretty thin call preflop). With the Jack pairing fours was no longer possible. I guess the odds were pretty high that Newhouse was bluffing.

Plus, Tonking had a really good read.

He might have called in position with a small pair but the way he played the hand was just really awful. I think Phil Helmuth would have even called the shove.

I don't give much credit to Tonking, he seemed mentally handicapped and his post interview affirmed that suspicion. Dude got incredibly lucky when it counted. Caught a couple of big hands late that let him glide to the FT.
