I think he was positioned at a seat where folks wouldn't normally be right next to him on either side (i.e., 3 or 7), but it sure seemed to me that there was even more distance that you'd normally expect between him and his neighbors.

For Cody's hand, I assume he put villain on a weaker two pair hand that pot controlled earlier streets and decided to donk bet a safe river. Hard to say if Cody's river raise is pure spew that never gets called by worse or how often top two is actually up against weaker two pair without knowing much about villian. Seems bad given population reads, but those pot odds may be too tempting and villian did take a somewhat uncommon line with the turned nuts.

DN was at my table once 9 years ago and it seems that he is still as tilting/annoying as ever. Never shuts the hell up.

Was Esfandiari's minraise with 88 on a 743 flop for thin value or to see where he was at? I thought betting / raising for info is usually frowned upon.

Yea, you're pretty much right. I guess you could make a small case for that occasionally being a value raise but he was essentially raising to find out where he was at which like you said is a very bad mentality to incorporate in your game. He just didn't want to play a guessing game on the turn I guess, it's always a incredibly god awful approach taken by fundamentally flawed live players in cash games, I don't play too many tournaments so maybe not as bad with shallow stacks vs opponents who aren't going to take outside the box lines in those spots, idk.

Yeah, you wouldn't see that mentality from some of the younger players that started online and transitioned to live like Siever, Haxton, Timex etc. But Antonio was one of the older guard, one of the poker boom era live pros that made it big with all the poker on TV stuff. So even though he is younger than some of the other live guys of that era, he probably does have similar mentalities to them.

imo 2+2 is blindly fanatical in its opposition to raising for information; like it's some sort of meme. It's exactly the same as every other kind of deviation we take from long-term optimal plays to take advantage of an opponent's specific weaknesses.

So it's not 'bad', it's just context-specific. If your opponent is balanced, then you don't actually get the information you think you are - i.e. you might assume their re-shove means strength and they bluff you. But if your opponent is a tight/passive/ABC kind of player and they re-shove, then you can correctly assume they're far more likely to be strong than not - in this case, very likely to be better than Antonio's 88. So he did actually get the reliable information that he paid for.

Was just wondering about that old couple that were Phil Ivey's biggest fans. I wonder are they in a better place right now aka bought the farm?

Mel and Pat Humphries, just did a quick google of them, didn't see anything about them dying, so I'm going to say they're still with us.

Most recent google searches of them are from last years (2014) main event, not sure why nothing from this year. But doesn't seem like they are dead.

As further proof that ESPN is basically treating the WSOP like an afterthought, would anyone care to guess when the last entry was to the ESPN Poker Blog, which is all that's left after the ESPN Poker sub-site was killed last year? Try 63 days ago! If they cared one iota about this they'd have at least put out a token story/reminder about the Main Event coverage starting. But no - nothing at all.

Anyone happen to know when the deal with ESPN runs through? Hopefully it's not much longer so another network can step in.

Pretty sure it's till something like 2025, maybe slightly less. They obv can't make much extra revenue off it so they don't give a toss.

I'm assuming the guy must have been tight as a rock for him to even think about folding there. Hero fold gone wrong.

Overall I think Kim has played pretty solid & seems a likable guy as well - only argument against that play would be villain who didn't look great & probably decided he wasn't folding an ace ever when he checked flop and didn't even realise how polarising that sizing was. On another note De Leon is the biggest nit ever.
Yeah but how often does Harris not have a decentish ace there? Not Alot IMO. I mean I'm probably worse than he is but I'm never folding any decent ace to that bet. If he caught the jack he caught the jack.

Oh okay thank you. I googled it and cardplayer had an article from August 4 that said it was supposed to be on tonight--guess they changed the schedule between now and then.
