What hands do you play in the early phase of a sit n go?

What kind of hands do you play in the early phase? I know some people who swear by only playing top pocket pairs (JJ+) but folding if a higher card comes up on the flop (eg. K23 flop when they have QQ), and AK/AQ but folding if they don't hit at least a pair.

Then I know people who open up their range by playing all pocket pairs, A9s, A10o+, KQs, even suited connectors. Depending on their position also.

What is "sng"?
6-max? FR? Speed? DoN? Buy-in?
Also depends on who you're playing against and - as you said - position.
The better you are at postflop play the wider your profitable range is gonna be (until a certain point where it becomes spew). Overall "tight is right" still fits though.

Whatever sit n go you want. Although I was looking more for 9 man regular/turbo sit n gos.

Re: What hands do you play in the early phase of a sit n go?

What I ment was "what is your definition of a sng as it matter greatly. HU no blind increase vs. a drooler or a 180 turbo with 9 regs at the table doesn't have the same ranges" and I though a man who wrote english as well as you do would be able to get that. I can see now that I shouldn't have hit enter after the first questionmark.

In a 9m Ronny's range should - on average - work from utg.

Hands that are profitable. Sometimes the hand doesn't even matter, it's the position I'm in and my opponents left to act.

Depends on a million different things, but if you have any cash game experience you'll usually be alright playing the 75bb and 50bb levels with the same ranges you would play in a 100bb cash game. You also have to recognize that in a cash game you're adjusting your ranges based on your opponents so in any given spot you can be playing really loose or really tight depending on action ahead of you and the tendencies of the players behind you.

Typically your big edges in SnG's come from understanding icm near the bubble so if you feel like your opponents are going to have an edge in deep stack play you can play extremely tight early and just start using your knowledge of icm near the bubble to get your win rate. The slower the games are the more of an edge you can gain in deep stacked play though.

Just tend to be tight. Ultimately you want to try to win a big pot, so you want a big hand. You start with it or you make it. Making it is hard so you tend to want to start with it.

Oh, and don't give up if you don't make a pair with AK/AQ. Against one player, nearly always, and against two, at least sometimes, you will bet when you miss.

What sort of ranges do you play in a 100bb cash game?

'Adjusting your ranges based on your opponents' so at lower limits where players are generally looser, stick to a tight range?

Do mid to low pocket pairs have great implied odds?

I raise you an über facepalm...

You basically ask how to play SNGs, and don't specify a format...it makes a huge difference...

He obviously just means sit and go...

Limp fold all hands, except AA and Q2. If you aren't raise/folding AA and Q2 then don't bother playing...
