Re: **** OFFICIAL STTF **** THREAD: June Edition: cuz it's muh birth month ****
I pay 1,500/mo rent where I'm at right now. Lease is up in 3mo so I contacted the landlord and asked if they'd like to renew lease for 1,500. reply was "can we do 1,550?". i said "would prefer 1500, it's already on my high end for rental, and it's up $50 from last renew. let me know if you can do this". reply was "lets make it 1520" - i accepted.
I know increases are standard, and the reasoning is always property taxes going up or w/e. 1.3% increase doesn't seem bad but 1,500 is already probably on the high side for this place - did I do good or am I just a big sucka?

Who cares if you like the place. Probably could have saved a few hundred but its not that big a deal
If that video isn't staged what are the chances of the dude getting shot/hurt really bad

He does get chased by an entire group of people at at the very end of the clip. It does seem pretty risky to run such a prank when the real zombie got shot by the police.
Siq, good tenants always have the upper hand, I'd be shocked if he would've said no if you stood your ground at 1500. That said locking it up and not creating ill will is probably the best move.

20 bucks is a good deal imo. Here in nyc the increase is between 50-75. My old place was 1400. For 2 years managed no increase. 3rd year up 50. 4th stayed at 1450. Then we moved. You did well with only doing 20. Now go for a 2 year lease at 1520.
Imo you could and should've stood ground at $1500, as that would've also prevented future increases to some extend.
If you do not come to arrangements and you move out he will not have someone straightaway next month in most cases, and he will know this.
So he is risking losing $1500 at least once for a $20/month increase.
So if you do not agree he is looking at about 6 years or so to earn the money back he lost.
On the other hand if you're not comfortable saying no and find the increase acceptable it's w/e.

A lot of stuff in life is like this though. Most things come down to a game of chicken. The problem with it is though, if you play chicken enough times the **** comes back round at you and you end up with the 6 year payback problem. I just think life works on a give and take basis with a bit of mutual respect thrown in there for good measure. Someone who never gives a bit eventually ends up taking it (so to speak!).
