Re: "Double or Nothing" SNGs - Best strategy?

Only played the 54s and 108s and at that level they are not very soft. A lot of bad players in them, but it seems like even the biggest donks realize you have to play very tight. It will probably be hard to get a ROI higher than 10-15% in them. Don't know about lower levels. They are also not turbo so they take a long time. Think my hourly is better in the old turbos.

My best advice would be to take a lot of notes on calling ranges. On the bubble with average stack you really can't ever call a push. Not even with AA, so to figure out who plays correct and who is too loose is key.

Re: "Double or Nothing" SNGs - Best strategy?

When I saw this post, I just about **** myself. Guys I did these types of tournaments at the $275+$27.5 level for about 6-8 months, and let me tell you, it IS NOT FUN.

These games are incredibly difficult to see a high ROI in. I understand why this might be counter-intuitive, thinking you can sit back pretty much and let the money come. This is what I thought when I first got into this.

I was dead wrong. And not because the players were excellent. What the guy said above me is correct (most players realize they have to play VERY tight). People aren't going to play their normal SNG strategy, as they know they shouldn't.

On the Prima network I did the Rounders tournaments for a long time. Round 4 was $275 + $27.5 (token money) and top 5 won $550 +$55 token to the cash Round 5. So a lot of the people that liked step-like structures played the Round 4 over and over hoping to accumulate tokens.

These games were absolutely without a doubt the most stressful ones I have ever played. Every decision was monumental, and if you missed an opportunity, that was catastrophic. Likewise, if you had bad timing, that was also catastrophic.

I ended up with a ~52-53% ITM figure, but I would much rather play standard $200 SNGs where I can see higher ROI with less stress.

If you want to make your life absolute hell, go for it. But take it from me these are not all what you are caking them up to be. BTW they are BORING as hell.

To answer the OP:

Tighter than a rock, but as I mentioned, you need to have exceptional feel. You need to know when your hand is good with very little information, or when it is not good.

And what about bankroll requirements for those?

Re: "Double or Nothing" SNGs - Best strategy?

this game sounds like the most boring form of poker ever.

tight as a rock is the way to go.

once youre 7handed and blinds are high enough pushing relentlessly from bu and sb shall be good.
not if they are tards that call too wide.
if your opponents understand icm they have to fold 95% of their hands since this is a multiseat satellite bubble everytime it gets down to 6.
oftentimes even folding KK might be correct if shoved on in case that stacks are evenly distributed.

goldmine yes, interesting no.

I'm pretty sure that hand rankings in those are the same as in poker at least!

in the best circumstance you will work to make rake for ongame.
the rake on them is redicoulus. go play roulette with 2.75% instead of 9% rake.

Re: "Double or Nothing" SNGs - Best strategy?

I played these on Ladbroke's till I got bored.

You need an ITM of 55% to break even and the trick seems to be -double up early and sit out. Trouble is, this needs either good cards or a donk ( preferably both) to achieve this.

If you're card dead at the low blinds then it's a crap shoot as no-one playing them on Ladbrokes even knows what the letters ICM stand for and call shoves with ATC.

I make a better roi on turbos

i really think people need to stop saying that they would "sit out" that is a riduclous statement to keep using as stradegy.

Re: "Double or Nothing" SNGs - Best strategy?

Well i have played a few now, and can confirm:
a) everyone plays a lot tighter than normal SNGs on Ongame, apart from the occasional idiot
2) but they dont seem to know calling ranges on a satellite bubble (A10o snap calls, etc)
iv) they are boring as bat sh*t, and i would much rather play a normal SNG or alternately watch grass grow
