Official Double or Nothing Thread
Not sure if many people play on Ongame and have seen these (or if they have them on other sites), but as the name suggests, they are 10 man SNGs and 5 people get paid.
First of all, any point even playing them, or is the rake going to kill me? Perhaps as a low variance option, esp. if playing above your bankroll?
Secondly, what do you think would be optimal strategy in these - tight as a rock, limping, somewhere in between, or even sitting out?
MODERATOR EDIT: No posting BBV crap in here- any lame hands, standard beats/whines about variance, or anything of the sort results in a one-strike policy banning and infraction. There's no room for it here and it's not welcome to be posted.

Re: "Double or Nothing" SNGs - Best strategy?
I think tight survivalpoker until 5-handed, then all-in every hand, is the best strategy. You should be able to find at least 3-4 willing to go all-in at some point before you really have to make any kind of move. The EV here surely must be other people knocking other people out.

Freudian, I think 5 people get the same reward: they double up what they invested.
If they are bad, best strategy could be to open up as many tables as you can, go out and drink beers with your friends, and come back to see how much money you've won, and open up a new set, and so on until you are completely drunk.

Re: "Double or Nothing" SNGs - Best strategy?
Never seen them, but I like the sounds of it. My guess would be to play tight, let people "play real poker" and waste thier stack then if you get to the larger blinds you have FE and can push enough to stay alive. Look for people who are interested in making the money and willing to fold then stay alive on thier blinds.
It sounds like once the first 5 go out the table will close? Is that correct?

The table doesn't close automatically. But there's no point in playing on, so usually everyone goes all-in or sits out.
I tried a dozen or so of these and found it profitable because of all the donks trying to get all the chips and knocking each-other out.
However, since you just get 20% of the price pool (same as placing 3rd in a normal sng) it's likely more profitable to play the normal sngs if you are a decent player.

Re: "Double or Nothing" SNGs - Best strategy?
I would play them if PS had them. They would be pretty easy at lower levels. Also probably very easy to play multiple tables which will help overall winnings per hour. It might be a good way to overcome bad runs and build a bankroll for better paying mtt's or stt's.

Re: "Double or Nothing" SNGs - Best strategy?
Sorry, I didnt make it 100% clear - the 5 players that get paid all receive double the buyin.
Mkost, the table doesnt close automatically ala Full Tilt, but everyone pretty much goes allin the hand after the bubble bursts.
My strategy so far has been to play quite a few hands early to try and double up (then essentially sit out), and if i dont double, stop splashing around at about 1k chips (start with 1.5k, 10/20 blinds, 8 minute lvls) to maintain fold equity once the blinds go up and it becomes push fold.

You should play tighter early in those than in normal sngs.

But if everyone else presumably is tightening up as well, what are the chances we get a call (aside from a monkey)?

Re: "Double or Nothing" SNGs - Best strategy?
I've played maybe ~30 of these so far and they seem very soft on Pokerroom. It's possible to cash without playing a hand sometimes. I've just been playing them like an ordinary SnG, tight at the start then aggressive around the bubble.

I think we need to push pokerstars to have them.
