I think if your good and have solid win rate 120-150 BI is enough for just about anyone if we're talking 2-18 mans @ $40 or less stake
If you are just starting out and want to still be conservative, but don't have the volume required to play multiple tables (more than 2-4) would you say that 40-50 buyins would be enough? Or would you push that up to 100-150 like what you have stated?

I only ask because I've read decent BR management for STT's is 30 buyins.

Where'd you read that dude?

Br requirements are all to do about your personal ROI% so everyone's different, 100 buyins is usually quoted as the standard although I think most semi serious players will always have more, unless you're shot taking which is a different thing altogether.

Re: ****Official Beginner/Basic Question Thread****

was playing a bit tired this morning, 12 tables. i noticed i had 100% fold2steal on almost all tables (not all, but almost). i really need to work on my blinddefense in sttīs.

problem is i hate playing OOP so whats the best play? when i think A2o good vs someone stealing often and blinds are good to go, just shove?

Re: ****Official Beginner/Basic Question Thread****

pony my post is geared to someone playing for a living. 40-50 buyins should be fine as your learning especially since your only 4 tabling max, on so few tables you should have semi strong reads on other players and it will be easier to learn/improve. Keep in mind the smaller your win rate/roi the more variance there is (less consistent results) so if you're playing really well on just a few tables you don't need so many buyins

epix there's nothing wrong with that. Even in 6m cash games my oop range is very small, being out of position just sucks even with good hands. In an SnG especially there's no need to get tricky just defend those middle strong or better hands and fold the rest. Maybe vs a good reg flat a premium oop once in awhile for balance/deception. It's definitely a spot where clicking fold make you money =]

Re: ****Official Beginner/Basic Question Thread****

Dont no where else to post this so Ill try here.

If I were gonna try to make a run at SN next year, would it be better play the 6.50 turbos or the 11 reg speeds? Obviously the 11s have twice the rake, but are gonna take a bit longer to finish and prob wont fill up as fast. thx

Meh between those 2 I'd guess I'd say 6.50 for you...11s if you start working on your postflop game more.

But really though play the 16s..you have enough skill to move up to them and it's a way better choice than those 2

Re: ****Official Beginner/Basic Question Thread****

Meh, if i worked on my postflop game I could prop beat the 16s, but i want to keep a smallish roll on stars and dont know if i could handle 1k+ downswings. Im still gonna put in decent time on FT. I just want something I can mindlessly 26 table for a smallish roi and chase SN. Sounds like the 6.50s are gonna be the best for that. Thanks for your help Tomo.

Thanks, I wasn't sure but I thought that might be the case. Now my only issue is that on Full Tilt going from $2.20 to $5.50 is a big jump between levels. I have 100 buyins for one, but only 40 for the other - would you shot take at that level and then drop down if you hit 30 buyins?

^Thats kind of a short leash to put yourself on. Dropping 10 buyins is super standard. One thing you might try is moving up on the weekends and then moving back down during the weekday. This will help ease you into a higher level, and playing when there are more fish on will give you better results.

If you do just want to take a shot at moving up completely, Id say have 80 dollars be the point where you move back down.

I play super turbo's and keep a 200 BI bankroll. Swings are crazy.

Re: ****Official Beginner/Basic Question Thread****

The swings you can expect are pretty much a function of your ROI and how often you cash in the tournament. I dont think youd need 200 BIs at a 1 table tournament unless your ROI was under 2.5% or so. It's not that the super turbos themselves are explicitly more swingy, but that they have smaller edges and thus lower achievable ROIs. (Splitting hairs I guess.) But if youre 16 tabling super turbos at 5%, youd basically need the same roll as someone 16 tabling turbos at the same ROI. If youre 4 tabling (like ponyboy) instead of 16 tabling, you can get away with at least 12 less BIs in your roll.

Do you play the 6 mans or 9 mans? I've played quite a few of both at the lower levels.

Re: ****Official Beginner/Basic Question Thread****

I'm sure this has been done a thousand times before, but, what is the best video series/training site for a complete beginner to STT's?

Also, what would you say is adequate BRM for the 9-man turbos?

Thanks guys.

Re: ****Official Beginner/Basic Question Thread****

Moshman Vids on Cardrunners are good.

BRM depends on what your ROI is, and whether you can redoposit. Between 60-100 BIs prob.

New to STT's,

how many games (on average) would someone be able to play 15 tabling regulars(no turbos)for about 8-10 hrs a day? thanks
