I need Sit and Go Help I need Sit and Go Help

Hello,

So, I am having trouble finding the information I need online, so I will make a post here. First, I would like to mention thanks to anyone who helps me with this post, it takes time to help others, so again, thanks. I currently play $1 buy in Sit and goes. Why? I play this because of my bankroll and only being a college student with limited funds. I have been trying to improve my game all summer, and I have seen improvement with my game. Even though I am seeing improvement, I am still struggling. People often talk about needing to study, so here I am. My question is very broad, but I hope I can get some help. To be straight forward, I am currently not doing good. I often place 3rd out of 6 players, just watching my bankroll go down. Sit and goes is the game I decided that I want to play and get good at. If anyone could help me with strategy, tips, or really anything to help my game would be greatly appreciated. I will be honest, I am stupid when it comes to poker slang, but I do know some. So if you are responding to my post, please keep that in mind. Again, thank you for any help you guys can offer me.

Best,

Mrkyblerr

What is your bankroll (BR)? For a newer player you should be sitting with 60-100 buy ins for the level you are at. So that's tip #1 -- bankroll management. Sit and gos come with more variance than cash games. Average BR for cash should be 30 BIs. So, you want to make sure you are properly rolled for SNGs. 50 Buy In (BI) downswings are not unheard of so you want to make sure you have enough to play through that should you have that happen.

As I mentioned variance, 9 man SNGs will have less than 6 mans, but it's personal preference. I would be more conservative with my BR playing 6 max as opposed to 9max.

#2 ICM

ICM stands for independent chip model or something like that. It's basically a mathematically solved way of playing your exact hand based on big blinds in your stack and all other stacks as well as factoring in players remaining and prize pool. Check out ICM software through Google. That's a more complicated step so take your time with that. Basically, it will tell you exactly how often you win by shoving any hand based on all the variables.

There's a ton of other stuff, but that's a good start. Good luck

Hi dude,

I'd recommend watching some SNG strategy videos on youtube. I'm sure anything with a decent number of views and a good like/dislike ratio would be good for you. You'll want to at least get some core basics for free and on your own time before coming here and getting them spoon fed to you.

This forum can be a good resource if you have some trouble hands but by the sounds of it you'll want to improve your base level knowledge before you really start to get value from what people have to offer.

Once you improve your poker knowledge and get to be a competent player at stakes slightly higher than $1 you will be at the point where you can begin to build a network of similarly skilled poker buds that you meet on here and chat strategy on Skype with and that can really help to accelerate your learning.

Agreed.

For youtube, check out Tonkaaaa. His youtube channel is called "TeamNeverLucky". He plays mostly high stakes SNGs and tournaments, but he has a really good "how to" type of SNG playlist on his channel. Find that playlist and watch all of those to get a better grasp on your basics as well as adding in a few higher level thinking strategies for you.
