Hello!

So it is common to monitor evbb/100 winrates for mtt players, and it is common to look at the ev graph for stt players if you want to guess your expected winrate.
18 mans are kind of in between, because like in mtts, there is no ev graph, but there are a ton of icm spots, which make evbb/100 less accurate (is this true?)
So if your evbb/100 is constantly high in 18 mans (like 10+) should you expect a higher roi?
Is there anyone here with close to breakeven evbb/100 with high roi in a big sample?
Or is there anyone with high evbb/100 and low roi?
Maybe if your evbb/100 is high, but roi is low, you are messing up a bounch of icm spots?

Thanks guys!

Not sure how evbb/100 in 18m differs from stts?
...theres even more icm spots in stts since 1/3 get paid in stts, and bubble spots come up more frequently.

High evbb/100 and low roi sound unreal to me....but my non poker playing friend gave the 1.5$ stts a shot and after 1k games his evbb was surprisingly big(cant remember exact number but i think 10+ at least) but his roi was around zero

I assume its just sample related and its not true over large samples but im not even close to sure

The whole subject seems rather complicated and confusing tbh

Not sure why this is that important to you?

Hmm, I think this is an interesting thread. It seems like analyzing this kind of info in detail could shed some unexpected light on which sort of strategies are most effective in tournaments, how much risk is warranted, etc.

My gut feeling is that winning players in MTTs in general are pretty much guaranteed to have a decent evbb/100, but that players with a good evbb/100 might not necessarily have a good ROI. The idea is that players with a decent evbb/100 but poor ROI are the types who mincash a lot but rarely ever win tournaments (would apply more to larger tournaments than 18-mans).

Very useful at the early stages, but something that should be ignored when there are 6 players remaining and ICM becomes more important than accumulation.

Since this thread ive been looking at my own evbb numbers in relation to roi numbers for certain time periods to get a feeling how they change together.

heres something interesting i found...(stats are filtered for stts)

I recently had a BE stretch:
2750games (92khands) ..... -0.5% roi (evbb/100 6.7)

Then i started winning again:
1500games (48khands) ..... 6.7%roi (evbb/100 7.9)

So roi difference is huge while i made nearly the same evbb-s for those time periods.

Samples sizes are always an issue but my personal conclusion is that you shouldnt give too much thought in comparing these 2 numbers since it appears they are semi separate from each other...whats the point anyway? Do you have a big evbb and small roi?

Its quite tilting to check my session results to see i had an roi of -15 and dropped 23 average buy ins....but my evbb was +11.
Thanks for this thread, now i have something new to tilt about
