.50 - Going for value or check back? .50 - Going for value or check back?

$3.50 SNG, 9-max.

No reads or stats.

A high raise usually means pocket pairs from TT and worse.
The board has 3 potential cards to give him a set..
Should I still going for value, or check back, in case he is slowplaying a set.
Any comments on this play?

Whoa there tiger... What's your plan here? This post is going to be full of questions for you to think about / answer!
Pre-flop - villain raises nearly 5x. Is this a normal raise size for him? My experience this is a villain that is scared of post flop... 77-TT, AQ+ although have seen KK+ occasionally. I'm fine with 3bet, but if you are... Are you stacking off to 4bet? Personally I tend the flat this more than 3bet.
Flop - why you raising? This is committing. You ask whether you should check back? Makes no difference... The money is going in on river even if turn goes check chk.
Just saying if you flat pre flop you have a chance of pot controlling... The way you played it left you no choice.

The minraise on the flop is the worst of all options you have imo because it doesn't accomplish anything and you commit yourself on t and r.

Thank you for good feedback.

Because I do not have any stats or reads on him, my decisions i based on my SNG plays the past weeks. I have played early morning European time, a time where 2/3 of players are really fishy..

The raise size is not normal, 95%+ its a pocket TT or less.

3-bet pre: Yes I will call a 4-bet all-in, because noone will open high with QQ+ at these SNGs. Its also very rare to see a high opening bet with Ax.

Min-raise on flop: The bet seems weak. Probably betting with a pocket. Usually, if players have a set here, they will then re-raise the flop.
So I do this most of all to get cheap information.
I cant fold here. But I can fold to a re-raise. Checking will only let me loose more chips on later streets if he slowplays because I have no information.
I still beat 22, 33, 44, 55, 66 and TT. Loose to 77, 88.

This is the thoughts I had during the action.

Does this seems reasonable, or is it just nonsense.

I like the 3 bet preflop with the intention to call a 4 bet shove. So many players at this level will be shoving hands like A-J and pairs between 6s and 10s which you crush. I really don't like the flop raise as your inflating the pot and like timoroga says, it basically means your getting it in on either of the next 2 streets.

Flatting the flop means you can go check check on the turn and then check call river or even go for thin value if you think he's calling 10s or worse.

Given how early you are in the SNG you don't really need to play a massive pot with mediocre holdings. Wait for a better spot to commit your stack I think.
