General strategy early blinds - tight

Middle and late strategy are contradicting online and in practice

I was observing this week:

I've seen a guy not go all-in once in the entire single table 9 player regular speed tourney and win it, the table was soft low limit with just 1 other good player that he was avoiding.

He was tight in the beginning and was trailing to about 1350 chips not playing any hands really..

He came alive with 6-7 players left starting at 25/50 blinds
He wasn't stealing much with preflop raises (occasionally he did but really not often at all)

He would instead limp or call the initial raise then attack postflop pots where he thought the opponent had nothing and wasn't betting or was showing weakness with his betting.

He only 3 bet reraised in position once against an initial raiser 3x BB preflop and a caller to take down over 10-15% of his stack, it was a "good spot".

BUT there was actually 2 players raising min or 2.5x BB preflop and then betting 1/3 pot on flop with most of the time nothing and betting 2/3 pot or more with a good hand so he catched on to that and was floating the flop when they bet 1/3 pot and then would take it down on the turn with a small bet (1/3 pot size himself).

He would limp in 3 way in position and take it down on the flop when they all check. He wasn't betting much postflop himself, he was just finding spots where the other's were weak or bluffing.

He eliminated no one and made it to the finals with 5,000 chips.. where it was the easiest finals ever.. the other guy was folding 90-95% of every hand PREFLOP! He min raised all day and the other guy was folding all day..

He was only folding the hands where the other guy raised preflop to avoid confrontation and eventually took it down when he climbed to 11K-12K chips this way.

1. How do you play the middle stage with blinds 25/50+ and 6-7 players left?
2. How do you play the "bubble" stage with 4-5 players left ?
3. How do you play the late stage with 3 players left ?

How do u get good at being an engineer, doctor or programmer? Please explain in a couple sentences! See how this doesn't work?

The thing u are looking for does not exist and sites trying to teach you how to win at SnG with free material on like 3 pages are either outdated or run by ppl who have no clue how the poker economy in 2017 works or want to sell you crap. There were times where it really was that easy cause avg opponents were so weak at poker that anyone could make money at it with a short intro and a bit of discipline, those times are long gone. Sorry if that kinda crashes your hopes, but it's the truth.

these questions are way too general...like already said, there once was a time when these questions could get a good enough (short)answer to be plus ev...that time is history, and and following those short answers in 2017 will not get you far at all

if you want to make money in sng do the following:

watch vids
get coaching
play
repeat

I would add some more
buy a HUD
pay for HRC
Mark hands for review
Work on mindset even if you never get on tilt

Long time ago since I read it, it does contain some solid basics, however the field and games have changed so much over time that everything he recommends doing against population will likely be (very) suboptimal in today's SnG. No disrespect to Colling, it was very valuable advice by the time it was published and I def enjoyed the read. If you keep in mind games where a whole lot different back then and think deeply about what u read, it's still a good read for a beginner, can recommend.
