Haha, your the weird uncle that lives on the other side of the planet. I have one of those. He's awesome.

Congrats Uncle Josem. Mostly, I've been blessed by a slew of stinky nieces over the years. For some reason, I became known as "Unca Junk". Now, they are in their 30's and I'm still "Unca Junk". Gladly, I finally have a new nephew (under a year old). He loves me and I can't wait to finally have a little fun helping to raise a dude. A cool dude. Like Unca Junk. And Uncle Josem.

Thanks - but just to be clear, I had absolutely no role in my sister's pregnancy.

Hah, for the time being only!

My best friend gave his inaugural speech in the Australian Parliament yesterday, I miss this passion and effort to make the world a better place.

Some of y'all might find it interesting:

Plus best wishes to Josem, who is leaving PokerStars after nine years to go swanning around on a "sabbatical."

After all these years stuck on the island, he can finally travel the continent a little bit and share some pictures.

Congrats Michael.

Elections were last week, and I 100% would have run if I could. Unfortunately, Brexit didn't come soon enough for me, so as a non-EU citizen, my visa category doesn't allow me to earn permanent residency, ever.

Hey everyone. It seems that every couple of years I am doing another poker project. I am in graduate school working on a PhD in economics. Lucky for me there's a such thing as gambling economics, unlucky for me I need data. I have as much of my dad's data as I could ever want, but for my findings to be generalizable, I need more people in my sample. If anyone knows of or can help me find a data set with multiple players and that has individual hand data, I am in desperate need of it. I can skate along with the data my dad has given me for now, but I plan on writing my dissertation on the topic of poker and my dad's data isn't going to cut it. I would prefer Hold'Em data because that's the game I know really well. If you want more info on what I plan to do with the data please let me know. Like I said, any leads or thoughts at all would be much appreciated. I hope you all are well!

I'm lacky, and I endorse this message!

(btw Erin, I forgot to mention the thread has kind of died down. Everyone still gets here eventually, it just takes days/weeks for everyone to wander by)

I'd help if I could, but can't. Maybe someone who posts here and also still in one of the cash forums could crosspost.

Your horrible spelling has never bothered me. Until now.
10-11-2016 , 08:43 PM
Yeah, didn't even misspell that one, just failed to proof read and catch my phones autocorrect sabotage. I pretty much hate my phones spell check. At some point it stopped spell checking and started deciding what I want to say on its own, even when I perfectly spell the word I really wanted.
10-11-2016 , 08:47 PM
I suspect it also has to do with user error. I am almost 50. Means texting (=any writing with phone) is not my native language.
10-11-2016 , 08:52 PM
Is there a way to have my phone stop auto correcting and just show misspelled words in red? I liked that system better.
10-11-2016 , 09:06 PM
I can only help with solar powered telephone machines. Also, I'm old too.

Also, the settings interface for my android phone is pretty disappointing. It's not horrible like an Apple or anything, but it could be better. Maybe some of the problem is Google and Samsung not working together well. Also, wtf with the file saving interface? When you save something why not just ask where you want it saved to instead of making me try to find it later?

But, I'm old too.
10-11-2016 , 09:54 PM
Yeah, exactly. I find most things in "downloads". If it's not there or "documents" I give up. It would be 10x easier just having things save to where I wanted in the first place than having to go in and move it every time. Meaning mostly everything is just sits in downloads. It's to the point it's rarely worth the time to dig through the mess and find it, meaning I just find it online and download it again, adding to the mess.

Everyone says they hate spellcheck but it's right 99% of the titties.

Hello again! What are your research question(s) and experimental design?

Hi!
Here are a couple research questions I'll be working on this semester in the project with my dad's hands (and some I'm just interested in) and these are questions I would want to apply to a sample:
1) How much do pocket aces (or just one ace in the hand) increase your chance of winning, and by how much
2) How much does table position influence chance of winning, and by how much
3) What are the payoffs of using really basic hands chart that tells you when to play hands depending on position
4) I would love to look at if the number of tables being played at one time influences performance (but don't think that's in my data anywhere)
5) Does a big win or loss influence future behavior
6) I tried to do a risk volatility study using coefficients of variation based on stakes but maybe the different levels of stakes weren't a wide enough range

Experimental design:
Some of the questions I've done empirical work on (aces, position, hand chart, volatility) but it was all very simple linear regression and most of them probability models with all dummy variables which is about as basic as you can get. There are more advanced probability models I can use, like Probit and Logit, to reevaluate the questions I've already looked at and now I can compare between two models. Other questions, like the behavior change after win/loss, that I will treat as an event and compare before and after results. I also think some interaction terms would be interesting: pocket aces in the BB vs. pocket aces with the BTN.

lacky'sdaughter,

Are there any other restrictions of the type of data you're looking for?
Cash game only? Specific ranges of stack depth?

I would prefer cash games, tournaments are ok too. As long as there is real money on the line and I can see the win/loss/no effect for each hand and the cards played it would be great. I don't even necessarily need to know how much was won or lost, just if there was a win or loss or no gain. And that kind of goes for stack depth too. If the total chips at the table for a given person is reported, I would love to look at how that could influence play (so a big range is fine, a small range is fine, not reported at all is fine). I'll take anything, even if it's not exactly what I'm looking for at this moment it could be useful in the next five-ish years I'll be studying this topic.
