Dynasty League Question for everyone. We are having problems in a 2+2 Multi-Sport Dynasty league and needed some non-biased feedback..

The Problem. This is the first season and at the beginning of the season I (the commish) said there will be a 4 team playoff. I however did not elaborate on how the ranking of teams 5-12 would go. I screwed up and just assumed it would be by regular season (weeks 1-14) record and that is how it is in all the other dynasty leagues I am in. I admit I screwed up by not explaining it though. Now, we ran into a problem because a few teams are saying they thought the conso ladder that ESPN adds would determine those last spots. Each spot in very valuable as it determines draft order for the next season as well as points toward the multi-sport overall crown.

Because pretty much every team has a self serving bias, it is hard to determine what the correct play should be. Wanted to get some thoughts..

Do the playoff games that 1-4 play count for determining draft order, etc, or just reg season finishing order? If so I think they should count for the teams that didnt make the playoffs as well. If theyre actually gonna have a consolation bracket it should be made to matter if possible.

Though I would look at the actions of the non playoff teams and if an overwhelming majority didnt touch their lineups and make moves I might say to just use reg season.

my $0.02 - once a team's season is over that record is what is used to seed them. So, reg season record for non-playoff teams with playoff teams seeded #1 for champ, #2 for runner up #3 and #4 by overall winning % and obv use tiebreakers where needed.

I think the playoff teams should set their draft order via how they do in the playoffs and every other team who didn't make the playoffs should be based on reg season records.

This is given a week has already passed in the playoffs making it quite likely some guys didn't set line ups for consolation bracket games. Seems unfair to do it any other way for them since that wasn't explicitly stated. The default should be reg season record IMO.

It's top 4, so playoffs start this week. The way it should be and making something the way it should be this late in the season is the real question.

In that case then hopefully you guys can come to a majority opinion or there's some sort of precedent for the league from previous years (which doesn't seem to be the case). Opinions at the end of the season alone are obv going to be largely self serving.

I'd still prefer my above opinion wrt next years draft order but I have no idea how standard that would be.

Maybe you guys should just dig up the default settings for dynasty leagues wrt draft order (if possible) and just use those.

Or perhaps the fairest idea would be for playoff teams to fight for draft spots 1-4 and the remaining teams' draft orders are randomized (5-12) for next year. Then set clear rules regarding future draft orders for the following year.
