Hi all,

$80+10 live tournament in local casino. About 45 runners, 6 paid.

In this hand, 11 players are left and we are playing 5-handed. Blinds: 1400/700/100. Average stack ~20.000. Playing a hyper-turbo format at this point.

Hijack shoves ~10.000 into our stack of ~17.000. It folds to us in the big blind.

1) What does a GTO calling range look like?
2) It's a live tourney where people are definitively undershoving and undercalling. Furthermore, I had a live read that the guy didn't want to be called. How does this change our calling range?

I called with A3 offsuit. In hindsight, I suspect the call is quite terrible. What do you think?

on an ev basis he should be pushing 40%, but people don't usually push as wide as they should.

I'd probably call 20% - something like 22+ A3s+ A9o+ K9s+ KJo+ Q9s+ QJo J9s+ T9s 98s - that's definitely on the tight side though given the price we are getting.

This one's gnarly. Let's put his range as a top 30% hand, but exclude QQ+ and AK. In that case, you're a 46/54 dog on this one. I was surprised to see how poorly A3o plays against even a wide, capped range.

The trouble is, if it's a hyper-turbo format, you probably don't have the time to wait for anything better, so it's a reluctant call. There are enough chips in the middle that a call is still +cEV.

Unfortunately, your read isn't as reassuring as it normally would be, because even a lot of hands that make him nervous, like 44 or A6o, are still well ahead of you. Heck, even 98s has 48% equity against you. There's very little in his range that you crush, and a bunch of stuff that leaves you drawing thin.

There's no ideal line on this one. A nitty fold brings you a different sort of problems that could be just as painful to your chances. Sorry it didn't work out.

This one does really depend on your opponent. What do you expect he shoves with? Is it 22+, A2s+, K8s+, QTs+, JTs, T9s, A8o+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo? Wider? But if he shoves with that range you should call w/ 66+ATs+KQs+ATo+. You can call a bit wider because of the antes and blinds tho.

He should shove with 33,64% of his hands with 7 blinds on the hijack position. Vs that range 55+ A7s+ KJs+ A8o+ has 50% equity or more.

I think you have a bigger edge when you widen your own shoving range. The number of errors they make for calling your shove are probably a lot bigger than the slight edge you have with calling the bottom of your calling range.

Just install Equilab on your pc and play around with handranges. You can calculate minimum equities with the handrange calculator.

@RiverDood I sent you a private message.
