*Official* Micros Weight Loss Prop Bet Thread

As I mentioned in the NC thread I would do a 7k Weight Loss Prop bet thread, mostly for myself but because we all can get in better shape I am sure. This is also getting close to the time of year when people start slacking and gain that winter weight so lets do what we can ensure that doesn’t happen.

For those of you that do not know my story:
Always been the big guy, I am currently 6’4 with my current weight listed below. I generally stayed in good shape many many years ago due to football (15 yrs ago) but then the weight crept on over the years once I got into the real world where I reached my peak weak of 428lbs in December 2006 and set up a Weight Loss bet with a buddy. I weighed in @ 414.8 beginning of January 2007 and manage to win the contest by getting down to 357. I slacked off for a while and weighed in a short time later at 379, its amazing how much water weight you can lose to win a contest.. I literally lost 25lbs in 12 days at one point after this to win another bet.

Guess what I did then?? You guessed it… I gained weight back again. On January 22, 2008 I weighed 383lbs, at this point I was pissed.. a whole year had passed in which I “tried” to be good and in the end I only lost 41lbs so I decided on 100lbs in 1 year. Fast forward through some ups and down and on 1/22/2009 I weighed 282.8lbs. I of course ended up seriously slacking again and bam April 2009 I was back to 335ish. Even though it seems nuts it really was not to bad considering I did every trick I know to lose the 100lbs, and really feel in love with the gym and heavy lifting and gained a lot of muscle and once I cut down again to 300lbs for August trip to Miami I was in the best shape of my life by far and that includes HS and 1 yr of JV college football.

I was pretty much walking around at 320 while lifting and living a normal life, but then I hurt my back in October and couldn’t do anything involved with exercise until probably a couple months ago and couple that with a thousand other excuses I weighed in @ 372 on Jan 11, 2010. (Im like a white, male oprah) I started another Weight Loss contest with a friend which I won again getting down to 347 mid May mostly with all the tricks at the end again.

Currently my weight fluctuates between 345-355 depending on the date and how much I drink without doing any tricks so this is a good thing.
For myself I am setting a target date of 12/17 as the latest date for the initial bet. I would like to be under 300lbs by the end of 2010 and that way I can roar into 2011 and keep it going this time.

I have $100 to play around with, I am hoping to get odds from people along with any straight up offers like a couple people offered last month (2 people offered $10 each once under 300lbs with no time frame) 12/17 is 17weeks if we do the initial weigh in on 8/20 meaning I would need to lose over 2.5lbs a week which is a little high on average considering I will lose that initial burst of loss that people get when they start.

I will also break off some of that $100 for heads up challenges at the same time though I would like to save most of it for 10-1 odds or so or really whatever people would like to offer.

I hope some other people jump in and do some of their own challenges etc. I am also up for any changes or new ideas in regards to my ideas.

pretty sure this will make you fatter a year from now.

if you don't want to die from obesity you should probably take the weightloss/lifestyle change more seriously.

Unlikely, and I am not here to argue...I did enough of that in H&F years ago. Ive kept off 80lbs since my worst point...

Id love to bet you that 1 year from my weigh in date that I will less than I do now

Did you read the challenge in small stakes? I thought it was put together well.

I never read the first page, so total fail by me. If mod wants to lock this fail up and redo it with that idea I am all for it. Id rather have someone else escrow it though...

Use this thread for discussion, interest, explaining, etc. Then when we're ready to go, start a new one with everything finalized and I'll lock this one.

And congrats on 7k.

To steal SSLHE idea

Your Profit Share: (Your Buy-in / Total Successful Buy-ins) * (Failure Pool)

Note: If you have a lower goal than 10%, you have assume lower risk for this bet. Your share in the profits will be lower as well. In this case, for profit sharing calculations, your Buy-in will modified by (your weight loss goal %) / (10%) . This cannot exceed 100% of your buy-in."

At the end of 90 days, for every % short of your goal you are, you lose that proportion of your Buy-in to the Failure Pool. You are returned the remainder of your buy-in. There is no pool money distributed to failures.
Buy-In % returned: (%achieved) / (%goal)

The Buy-in Amount:
However much you are willing to wager for motivation/profit. Higher profits for higher risk. All Buy-ins are collected on entering into this prop. BigBadBabar is serving as escrow for this bet.

HOW DO I GET IN ON THE ACTION?
1. Reply in this thread using the quote below.
2. Attach a picture of your scale reading with you standing on it. If you cheat, you're scum imo.
3. Ship BigBadBabar your buy-in. Post in this thread saying shipped. His info is in the first reply.

I will be distributing profits from the Failure Pool in early September.

I buy in for 500, on 10%
Jesse buys in for 500 on 10%
Leo buys in for 50 on 5%
Calli buys in for 300 on 5%
SomeRandomDude buys in for 800 on 10%

for instance----
Jesse makes his full goal, gets his buy-in completely back, and is eligible for the failure pool money
Calli makes his full goal, gets his buy-in completely back, and is eligible for the failure pool
Leo makes his full goal, gets his buy-in completely back, and is eligible for the failure pool
I only make 6% of my 10% goal, and lose 40% of my buy-in to the failure pool. (200$)
SomeRandomDude only makes 0% of his 10% goal, and lose 100% of his buy-in to the failure pool. (800$)

-----------calculating profit---------------- (this was annoying to setup, but i find extremely solid)
Jesse's successful buy-in = 500
As Leo's with 5% assumed less risk, he cannot profit as much, successful Buy-in = 50 * 50% = 25$ This is the # used to calculate his profit sharing
As Calli with 5% assumed less risk, he cannot profit as much, successful Buy-in = 300 * 50% = 150$ This is the # used to calculate his profit sharing

total successful buyins = 500+25+150 = 675 (this is for weight calcs)

The three of you will split the 1k failure pool money.

You already earned your buy-ins back... this is pure profits:
Jesse's profit = (500/675)*1000$ = ~ 741$
Leo's profit = (25/675)*1000$ = ~37$
Calli's profit = (150/675)*1000$ = ~222$
90 days is perfect, if we started 8/20 and put end date of 9/19 its 91 days basically or even did closer to 9/1 though if we do that we are hitting Thanksgiving right at the final stretch

Basically Ill be in for $100 @ 10% which will be 34-35 lbs within that time which will most likely be the largest amount anyone has to lose.

Re: *Official* Micros Weight Loss Prop Bet Thread

I think this is unfair!

A guy that weighs 400 pounds can "easily" lose 60 pounds in 90 days (15% for all you mathematically challenged)
But a guy that weighs 200 pounds, when 170 is his ideal weight, will have a heck of a time getting there (also 15% = 30 pounds), especially in such a short time.

Re: *Official* Micros Weight Loss Prop Bet Thread

I'm in the SSLHE contest, but I'll roll over whatever I don't lose in the other thread into any contest here.

My goal was -14 lbs (197 to 183) in 14 weeks (end of May to end of August). I think I'm going to make about half that. I'll renew for another 3 months, -1 lb/week, from whatever my weight is on the day that the SS challenge ends.

[Just for those who didn't bother reading the entire thread, the question of exact weight is kind of hard to determine because people seem to be fluctuating +/- 2 lbs per day, so if you start on a light day and end on a heavy day you could probably see a 4 lb variation in your weight loss ... I'd recommend that if people are going to put money down they specify exactly how they're going to weigh (daily, average over a week, etc.) so nobody can pull shenanigans. On the other hand, if the stakes are small enough, nobody will care, but IIRC jesse and avoid put down like $500 each so that was pretty balla.]

Sick life. Good luck on losing the weight.

Can I just bet that you won't lose that much?

20$ at 1:1?

Edit: Wow, 6'1 130 is grossly sickening.

1.5-2.0 lbs/week is about the max for safe, long lasting weight loss (ie, mostly fat and not too much muscle mass) for the average dude. however, it is possible for a guy who is much, much bigger to lose a bit more than that on average and still remain healthy. for a 350lb guy, i don't think 2.5 lbs/week of fat loss is too extreme to ask, provided that it is FAT and not muscle that is being lost.

I wish I could gain some weight. I run every few days and am not nutritionally healthy in any sense (eating lots of chips / drinking soda, etc.), but my metabolism and I have a very special relationship.

This pretty much comes down to making sure you are smart with your weigh ins

Its not at all, the issue for me is that I put on a ton of muscle for a while when I was lifting for a long time so while I weighed 300 I looked more 260... was was at the highest I ever was for every exercise when I got hurt.

Its amazing how strong your legs are when you are a tank, I was able to leg press 600+ right out the gate and was able to DL 300+ within a couple weeks... (pissed I hurt my back or I would have never had to start this thread)
