Re: MicroStakes BR Mgmt

I have essentially a minimum wage job, but a fair amount of disposable income. My BR strategy is to just play at whatever level I think I can beat, until I'm broke, and if I go broke, then I'll buy back in later. This is probably a good strategy, but if it isn't, I would love to know, so please fill me in guys.

It's actually a fine strategy. It has a high risk of ruin, but "ruin" is a temporary state from which you soon recover.

If you find yourself winning, and your stake is increasing, you may find it useful to practice bankroll management to protect that stake, at least to the extent that it would be inconvenient to rebuild it, either through adding to it or by playing winning poker at lower limits.

My win rate for the last two months has been June 5.89 BB/Hr July 3.38 BB/Hr

I'm not sure if that is an acceptable range... I'm still learning here as to what is good and what is not.

My main goal is to get better at playing online and have that transfer over to playing better live.

I usually don't play more than 2-3 tables at one time. Anything more than that and the play just goes so fast that I feel like I'm just guessing and taking the SWAG method.

If I have to making another deposit is always an option. I would prefer not to do that and just play well, work my way.

Since I've already asked this question regarding BR being based on Big Bets and not Big Blind... when you sit down to play...

What should you sit down and play with? 30X BB? I know the answer is going to be "what ever you feel comfortable with"... when playing LIVE I usually sit down with 30x BB ie 3-6/4-8 would be 180/240 respectively

To much, not enough?

Thanks again for all the replies
BB/Hr. doesn't matter. BB/100 is what really matters in the online game.

For poker pro, only thing that matters is $/hr

Re: MicroStakes BR Mgmt

Yeah, but you still calc you RoR based on BB/100.

Re: MicroStakes BR Mgmt

BB/100 doesn't matter more or less than BB/hr. It happens that BB/100 is what tracker software like HEM or PokerTracker reports. (They also report BB/hour, but related statistics like standard deviation are reported per hundred hands.)

You can configure PokerTracker to report SD on an hourly basis also, and you can easily calcluate RoR with the hourly numbers.

The reason why BB/100 is more useful than BB/hr is that BB/100 provides the same information no matter how many tables one is playing. This is convenience, not necessity.

Re: MicroStakes BR Mgmt

So what if some hours I play 2 tables and some hours I play 16? BB/HR is a somewhat meaningless stat online.

Re: MicroStakes BR Mgmt

I'm grunching here, but worrying about strict bankroll management at these stakes just seems silly imo. If you're confident you can beat .10/.20 but you only have $40, go ahead and take a shot and rebuy if you hit a downswing.

A lot of what's written about bankroll management is aimed at higher stakes games where rebuying requires serious-business money.
