It's from community. Tv show on NBC. It's from the episode Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Annie (the girl in the gif) is describing how she would manually manipulate a maiden she met on the quest.

I think pf is OK, if a touch marginal. You have absolutely zero SD-value UI and basically zero pf FE. But the hand can connect big multiway and does have slight equity edge against a couple random ranges, plus you're ip; so I think it's OK. Don't think overlimping would have been awful against this line-up either. I'd rate it:
raise>call>>>>fold

Flop plan was standard in best relative position to trap both for an extra bet. Turn is standard.

River.....I think I just call BTN's 3!. He's played this hand so screwy it's hard to put him on a range; but something like KJ sure seems to make a lot of sense. Maybe he's doing some weird stutter-step spaz with JJ, or KT (if that's in his pf 3bet range)???
At any rate, your hand seems kinda face-up at this point, and he's still suddenly gone from calling to cold-3betting the flush river, so I'm inclined to just call.

I'm waiting for season 2 of Community to be released on Netflix here in Canada. Friend persuaded me to start that series; I was very pleasantly surprised (though cliff-hanger love triangle ending to season was a little meh for me). Awesomely hilarious show, though.

FWIW, what you said here really hits home with me. For whatever reason, I wasn't explicitly looking at my decisions to open-steal or not in this light. I knew the general idea of cutting down your steal range against loose and aggressive opponents, but I never internalized the concept until now; what you say has completely reshaped how I look at my opening play at 6m. Thanks!

Re: I'm a BADLAGTAG - 1/2 6m - 98s Tricky River

Is your opening range that tight? You should have hands to cut before you cut 98s (say K6s or T9o). If you want to cut hands at all that is...

Keep in mind that you want to play pots with bad players (UTG, SB), in particular if you get to do it in position. There should be a reasonable chance for BTN to fold so I snap-raise this particular hand in this particular preflop situation.

I wasn't referring to 98s, but instead I was referring to more marginal hands like those you pointed out.

Re: I'm a BADLAGTAG - 1/2 6m - 98s Tricky River

In most shorthanded situations, your reads on your opponents really matter. How showdown bound are they? How much do they spew with 2nd best? Are they putting you to tough decisions post flop? At some point you have diminishing returns parsing fine values of your own hand and would be better off considering your exact reads on your villains.

Against a villain who is fit/fold on the flop, who only raises 2 pair or better, and who will spew off badly (say 2pr or a str8 on a flush board), just being in the pot is worth a lot. Since he plays hands face up and has to hit to win, you'll just never be in tough spots.

Flop - I might donk, but c/r is good.
Turn - I would raise after SB, because of the flop check.
River - I like the cap.
