Check-raised by unknown player on flop

UTG+2 seems to be a loose player (44.44/5.56/0.71 after 18 hands).

He stopped for a few seconds on flop and checked. I bet and got check-raised by him. I put him on holding at least 2 pairs.

Turn did not help me, but I called. I am not sure if this is right. Should I give up on Turn? I would appreciate any comment. Thank you.

Re: Check-raised by unknown player on flop

This isn't terrible, but I'm thinking dumping the turn is better. I can't see villain c/r'ing and then barreling a FD the 1 in 6 we need to call. Some villains, sure, but I'd get a better read before assuming our guy was like this.

I don't understand why we should fold the turn. I mean hes unknown theres a straight draw/flush draw and the J+lower PP's could be in his range.

I may fold the turn here against a total unknown. His stats are only for 18 hands and may be virtually useless.

But, although it may be a leak, I'm more likely to call the river here for information. *sheepish grin*

Like I said, calling down isn't horrible and you'll learn something about vil in the process. However, when a seemingly passive vil c/r's this hand HU I'm guessing he doesn't have a draw.

Agreed, I just don't think 18 hands is enough to make us think for sure he's that passive.

Re: Check-raised by unknown player on flop

*grunch*
Pre-flop raise is fine.
On flop pot odds are 8.4 to 2->4.2 to 1. There are 5 outs to improve your hand: 2 Jacks and 3 Aces. 5*4 = ~20% -> 4 to 1 underdog, but still making it OK to have a peek at the turn, right?
turn: blank-> you: fold

Re: Check-raised by unknown player on flop

one day we will be better players, playing vs hand ranges instead of calling down to get informations.

until that day, lets call down. and fold to a river bet vs a hand range a loose opponent could be raising vs our flop cbet.

here is his range:

any two spades, K2o+,QTo+,J2o+

here is your pot equity: 50% (bad river fold indeed)

This pot is not big. Do we really want to call down to find out what the villain has?
