Re: 33 in SB: What's our play?

You have about 46% equity against an aggressive CO opening range. That's enough for the advantages of 3-betting from the SB (cheaper than 3-betting from outside of the blinds plus the chance to knock out BB and create dead money) to offset the disadvantage of being OOP. So 3-betting is probably around neutral EV. CO's aggressive postflop play can put you in difficult spots however.

Sorry but this is an absurd statement. There's a 5 point equity difference between 22 and 55. That's enough to change the play from fold to 3-bet. And obviously the bigger the pair, the better it plays postflop.

You must be putting CO on a very tight range then. Even against a taggish MP2 opening range, there's a 1.6% point equity difference.

Equity Win Tie
MP2 59.50% 59.10% 0.40% 66+, A8s+, KTs+, QTs+, JTs, ATo+, KJo+
MP3 40.50% 40.10% 0.40% 22

MP2 57.90% 57.60% 0.30% 66+, A8s+, KTs+, QTs+, JTs, ATo+, KJo+
MP3 42.10% 41.80% 0.30% 55

I think the 40% range could be adjusted slightly to reflect his actual opening range, but I think this is close enough for arguments sake.

Even if i give you like 3% which what i got when putting CO in 35% range (Seems reasonable). You really have no playability difference in the two. Hot-Cold equity i think just begins to tell the story, to be honest. One a 389 flop or something like that you are every great once in a while going to be losing to 3x, but not likely if you have 22 and never obviously if you have 55. However,er there are few flops that really change the playability of the hand and it really comes down to what the villain is going to do. preflop i think matters very little in this case. I really do think this is one of those instances that

Hmm. CO opens 40%. I check the sticky by my monitor, and see that the hands with >45% equity versus top 40% range is {22+, A2s+, K7s+, Q9s+, JTs, A2o+, K9o+, QTo+} 33 is towards the bottom of this range, but it is definitely included. 3 bets!

FWIW, here is my whole sticky:

SB reraising ranges, assuming 45% equity needed vs. opener's range due to dead money from the folded big blind.
Code:
Opener's range SB 3-betting range
-------------- ------------------

         5% JJ+, AKs, AKo

        10% 99+, AJs+, AQo+

        15% 77+, A9s+, KQs, ATo+, KQo

        20% 44+, A3s+, KTs+, A8o+, KJo+

        25% 22+, A2s+, KTs+, QJs, A8o+, KJo+

        30% 22+, A2s+, K9s+, QTs+, A4o+, KTo+, QJo

        35% 22+, A2s+, K8s+, QTs+, A2o+, K9o+, QJo

        40% 22+, A2s+, K7s+, Q9s+, JTs, A2o+, K9o+, QTo+

        45% 22+, A2s+, K5s+, Q9s+, JTs, A2o+, K8o+, QTo+

        50% 22+, A2s+, K3s+, Q8s+, J9s+, A2o+, K7o+, Q9o+, JTo
