i do much better cutting by skipping meals fwiw. like i said earlier, i need to hit satiety at the end of the day to relax and sleep. if not, i will just think about how hungry i am. during the day there are activities to take my mind off being hungry.

again, for ytf, or anyone, its gunna be about finding ways to manage and mitigate the hunger while on a deficit. ppl benefit from different foods and timing.

I get too snappy with my coworkers if I skip meals, which causes me to rationalize eating to preserve my job. It was a lot easier when I was just playing poker, of course I wouldn't play optimally either.

I do generally only eat two meals on the weekends - breakfast and like 4pm-ish. With healthy snacks and protein shakes in between.

My family is a lot like ytf's with a mix of fat and skinny. I was skinny.

Anyway, my sympathies go out to people who are fat. I don't think you can just say "self control" like that explains it all. I'm not an alcoholic, but I don't credit my will power for that. I drink very moderately and have no desire to drink more. So my sobriety is a credit to my lack of desire, not willpower.

Both my Dad and brother lost more than 200lbs (edit: maybe my brother lost 150lbs) - so it can be done. I'm sure you people who are very overweight have tried whatever I could suggest, so all I can say is good luck.

YTF has a journey with simple directions, but it's over very difficult terrain.

But now that I type this, I see your point isn't about the data itself, it's about getting me in the habit of logging. I hadn't considered that, and you're correct, of course.

Gotta get ready for work now, but I promise when I get home tonight I'll educate myself on how to do that.

Stop making excuses and just do it. You've got a head of steam from this thread, capitalize on it. Throw anything unhealthy you have left away. It will be cathartic. Food doesn't control you.

I just went and logged today's food. It was incredibly, surprisingly easy. If I knew it were that easy, I wouldn't have fought it for so long.

Hay guise, I'll toss the half-a-package of Oreos and the pack of shredded cheddar, but other than that, my kitchen cupboards aren't full of the HoHos and DingDongs you imagine. I got my breakfast stuff (olive oil, eggs, sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, bagels, Brummel's and Brown's butter-tasting-stuff-they-call-yogurt), my lunch stuff (tuna, Nathan's hot dogs, flour tortillas, and condiments), and my dinner stuff (pasta, sauce, meatballs, sausage, grated cheese; salad, dressing, and dinner rolls). Diet Coke, Dasani water, and that's it!

Tale of the tape, to help you guys with your side bets:

The new scale says I weigh 380, including shorts and t-shirt. That's the most I've ever weighed.

I'm 5' 7-3/4ths", turned 45.5 years old two days ago.

heh, i almost made a post saying the same thing. there are numerous reasons why this is true too. moastly its the intrinsic motivation of not effing up something you have worked hard at and suffered and struggled for over many days.

also, your appetite will decrease and you will find an intake system that is satiating. so it will get a bit easier, but still hard.

Bagels gotta go, seriously those things turn to sugar in your bloodstream as fast as a doughnut. Dinner rolls as well. I try to really limit my carb intake at night. The tortillas are probably ok but no more than one per day with healthy stuff inside. Cheese should be light and used sparingly. No more sausage when this is gone - too fatty. Stick to canadian bacon or lean turkey ham. Salad dressing better be some kind of low-fat vinagrette. Even a lot of "low-fat" creamy dressings still suck. Pasta probably needs to go unless it's whole wheat. If it's just a small amount you can have it at lunch. Hot dogs are ok but don't replace them. Meatballs have too many carbs as well.

What you need is stuff like lean chicken breast, turkey, fish or beef (flank steak - no ribeye).

Vegetables - try the mixed broccoli, carrots, cauliflower - steamed or raw - but no ranch! Get some mushrooms and cucumbers for your salad.

If you're gonna do bread make it sprouted wheat bread and no more than 15g carb per slice. Potatoes and brown rice are better sources of carbs. 2 small corn or flour tortillas for lunch with healthy grilled meat, veggies, salsa and maybe a tiny bit of light cheese is fine.

Not sure if it applies to everyone - but on the diet the nutritionist gave me I can eat as much grapefruit, strawberries and blackberries as I want. The other fruits are "sometimes food".

For desert I usually do fruit or those little no-carb light and fit yogurts. Again just because it says lite doesn't always mean it's very light on sugar or fat.

Also I eat a protein shake between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner to keep down the hunger.

I've been eating this way for so long I feel like crap after a meal if I don't get some fruits and vegetables. I can eat carby food, but two meals in a row of it and I feel sick. Those foods taste good but if you listen to your body, it's rejecting them. Whereas mixed veggies aren't really that tasty, but afterward I feel much more balanced and just better overall. One doughnut literally makes me feel sick now. But cookies still taste like the best thing in the world dammit.

OK, the bagels and rolls are gone. And yeah, no more pasta nor sausage after this is gone.

(Good thing you specified "no ribeye", or I would have botched that, too.)

BTW, I'm a George Foreman Grillin' wizard: steak, chicken, fish, that grill is my best friend.

I usually have plain white rice and steamed veggies with the grilled meat when I'm in diet mode. You guys got an opinion on rice? I'm guessing potatoes are a stay-away?

Sweet potatoes are awesome, def a decent replacement for regular. Brown rice is good, but try and get the majority of your carbs through veggies. Broccoli and Green Beans are a staple for me, I dowse them in salsa though to make it bareable.

Potatoes are ok. Just no more than a small handful. I think red potatoes and sweet potatoes are supposed to be the best for you.

Most beef is too fatty but flank steak is ok. With fish stay away from salmon except every once in a while. Your staples should be tuna (canned in water or grilled/raw) and chicken breast.

Brown rice is much better than white rice.

I really want to emphasize that for a ************ standpoint you don't even have to change what you're eating so much as you just have to eat less of it.

I really think doing it that way is a key element to dieting success. People have a very hard time fixing more than one thing about themselves at at time. Focus on eating what you like to eat.

Dude he just got the empowerment of throwing the really bad stuff out. Lets not take the wind out of his sails already. When I went to a nutritionist he didn't say "keep eating crap just less of it" he said "eat well but eat this healthy stuff".
