lmao at t-shirt over face. such an easy counter-measure.

i chose alligator in the beginning, but reading all the responses made me even more confident. so much so that i would even do it for a money prop-bet

LOL what? You don't think most people can survive for 15 minutes in a pool?

B: Three hungry adult male wolves in a 100x100 ft gym, each of you starting in one of the corners. You have one grenade and a machete. The entire gym is covered in one foot of Chick-fil-a honey mustard sauce.

Which do you choose?
Dying shin-deep in CFA sauce would be a delicious way to go. I would be envied by all of my friends. So B. Answer to OP is very VERY obviously gator. To make it a more even question, make the dimensions of the "gymnasium" 20 ft by 20 ft so that playing keep away wouldn't be such a given. It makes a confrontation more likely.

I tend to agree. The thing is, I don't even think an alligator has a strategy to kill something as big as a human on land. It can maybe kill a bird.

Have a look at this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ates_by_decade

Some of the descriptions are not clear, but I'm pretty sure most of these fatalities occurred either in water or very close to it. They're useless on land.

Came up at bowling tonight.

Would you rather fight Kevin Eubanks while he had one pair of brass knuckles or Jay Leno wielding a switchblade?

You say in the OP that the alligator is motivated to eat you. This maybe true if you are within a 10 metre radius of it but if we are talking about a gymnasium-sized, completely empty room which would usually be the same size as the pool if not larger it would become pretty disinterested IMO if you go outside that radius.

For the lion, given that there is nowhere to rest and given it is 10 feet deep which means that you will be constantly trying to stay afloat that alone will attract the lion no matter where you are in the pool.

Therefore, alligator for me.

Contest would have been closer IMO if it was a crocodile and not an alligator.

Lion.

Lion is going to panic more fighting in water than alligator on land. Alligator can eat you just fine on land. If lion starts ingesting water while fighting they are going to lose focus.

This also seems to be the case for most people choosing alligator, THEY don't like to swim or are not very good at it.

It seems people who are very comfortable in the water realize the huge advantage they have over a lion who likely has no experience engaging in water.

My advantage over a lion in water is much greater than over an alligator on land. I could see how people not as experienced or comfortable in water might go the other way. All this really tells me is people who chose alligator need to learn to be more comfortable and capable in water, in case this very scenario ever comes up. All other things being equal the maximum potential advantage is going to be against the lion.

Srsly?

Do you swim with water wings? Without a lion it is treading water for fifteen minutes which should be possible by anyone who knows how to swim and doesn't play poker.

Lol at people thinking lions are good swimmers or people thinking how long they are or even sillier how tall they could be on land if the could walk on two legs is relevant.

Just admit you pussies are afraid of water.

How exactly do you know with such certainty the swimming capabilities of lions?

People are painfully naive about the lion's swimming abilities. Lions have evolved to avoid water largely because in their habitat the water is infested with crocs and hippos. Their close relative the tiger doesn't have this fear and is an excellent swimmer. They dive too, youtube it.

Lol it doesn't even matter the swimming capability of the lion. You're in a relatively small area with limited mobility and an animal 5x your size that will likely be scared. If you don't understand how that could spell bad things for you, you're just a plain goddamned idiot.

The gym-sized room with the alligator is just such a safe scenario, even if he's actively trying to get at you, alligators are ambush predators and that's basically a situation where you can just sit there and you both stare at each other for a few hours and then whatever finishes this hypothetical happens.

Make it a large saltwater crocodile.

The last one is filmed about 30 minutes away from where I grew up.

Surely holding an alligator's mouth shut is easier said than done? You've got to avoid having your hand snapped off in the process and they have pretty good reflexes don't they?

I mean, OP did say it was motivated to kill you so I doubt it's just going to sit there and stare at you. I still choose the alligator either way obviously.

No, I do lap swimming occasionally for workouts. Given that the walls extend 3 feet above the surface, with no available hand holds or foot holds, you're burning a non-trivial amount of calories just treading water with no ability to rest. For people who aren't comfortable swimmers and who are generally out of shape (a not insignificant portion of the world, especially among basement-dwelling 2+2ers), I think just throwing them into that pool for 15 minutes is going to present a real problem.

I don't think this is particularly close for the average person.

alligator and it's not close.

I also doubt most people's ability to swim away from anything for 15mins.
