If I were equally good at swimming and running I would EASILY choose Lion. But, if it's me personally I have to choose Alligator.

Hell, I think I might die alone in that water

Also, if a lion is standing on hind legs, it can be 10 feet tall. So if it is not swimming right on top of the water, swimming under it is not exactly a cakewalk.

If you can tread water and swim relativelt well, i can't see how the alligator is easier: physical build of a human vs. lion allows us to push off the sides of the pool, while all they can do is cat-paddle and should give us the head start required to reach another side and wait until the next push-off is required.

an alligator cant catch you, and it likely wouldnt even try. So unless you faint or something its pretty much guaranteed survival. A 10 year old would be safe in the scenario given

so yeah anyone who picks lion is, I hate to say it, but really dumb.

With murky water I could avoid the lion.
With clear water I'm afraid he would see me underwater and follow me.

I don't think it would be too tough to keep away from a gator on a slippery concrete floor.
Just stay behind him and stay out of the corners.

Hippo? Depends on how good his traction is on concrete.

On tv they said you're suppose to zig zag if you have to run from an alligator because they can launch but cant really turn. So just serpentine and hit some spin moves and you'll be alright.

After 5 minutes of googling, I have to agree I guess - an alligator's land speed is topping off at 12 mph. If we look at the speed of an average human, they're going to have some close calls. As for a child having no problems, I'm going to assume that's hyperbole.

That being said, I would have taken a prop bet to last 15 minutes with a lion in the above-mentioned pool 10 years ago when I was swimming daily and had no kids...

Alligator ANIEC, you are not out of your element and may have the opportunity to rest. Most people here would prob drown it 10 min then get eaten. Also Alligators don't charge and rundown their prey like Lions do, they try to surprise it. It honestly might just sit and look at you for the first 12 min. Even if it doesn't, throwing your T-Shirt over its face and jumping on its back is def a realistic strategy.

Only reason to choose lion is if you think you're a considerably better swimmer than the lion with a fair bit better endurance. That's not a terribly unreasonable proposition, as humans are much, much better distance runners than most animals, and the lion probably has to expend more energy than you do in order to stay afloat. Most big cats rely on one quick burst to catch their prey, not a marathon's worth of chasing. If you have the initial burst to get away from the lion and the endurance to swim a mile's worth of circles around the pool, you can probably drown the lion due to exhaustion, as the lion won't have an opportunity to rest. Thus, you won't have to get within 10 feet of any teeth. Exhausting the gator is harder, as it can just stop running if it wants.

Going toe to toe with the lion in the pool is lol. If you want to fight the animal, gator all day, every day.

I'm assuming the people that are choosing the alligator didn't watch the videos I posted. In the first video it looks as if they are scared of getting their hair wet. Not to mention in the third video where the lion uses the human as a flotation device seconds after jumping in the water.

And this is an argument for choosing the Lion?

Everyone needs to stop thinking that they can out swim a lion trying to kill them. YOU CANT. A lion can swim faster and longer than you. Just because an animal doesnt like to swim doesnt mean it cant swim.

Im actually embarrassed for some you guys.

I dont think its unreasonable to think a child could easily exceed 12mph for longer than an alligator could. Thats like a 7 second 40 yard dash time, and I havent googled, but im pretty sure an alligator prolly cant even run 40 yards.

Sure, it would require a little more effort from me, but helping the lion float and potentially teaching it how to swim would be an amazing experience.
