also heard in the interview that hbo is doing some kinda thing with him in the near future. didn't really go into details but said it was gonna involve attempting to land without a parachute.

yeah i think that was in the last year or two i China. Not the hardest jump but it is fully committing with no bail out area. The landing without a shoot has been in the near future for like 8 years now. Would be awesome if it finally happens but I will believe it when I see it.

No joke, ever since I saw this sport a few years ago it has become my number one life goal to be able to do this some day.

yep, same here. just watching those videos in hd is absolutely breathtaking; actually experiencing those vistas from that perspective just seems like it would be the literal best thing ever. its without a doubt my #1 before 30 goal

This isn't wingsuit base jumping, but it's skydiving, so it's close enough and doesn't really deserve it's own thread.

There's a guy who plans to sky dive from 23 miles in the air. That's 37 km or 121,000 feet. That's so high the he's going to break the sound barrier on the way down.

Some people in thread are a little naive. You don't "dabble" in basejumping. For the pros, it's their job, that's why they are PROFESSIONALS.

I don't believe the numbers saying its something like 8x more dangerous than skydiving because skydiving itself has a pretty low mortality rate considering (56 deaths in 2011). The extra factor of being so close to terrain makes it one of the most dangerous activities in the world.

Anyway I've read a ton about it and watched countless videos because its
a) awesome
b) fascinating
c) something I know I will never try to do.

Just sit back and watch. Wingsuit basejumping pros like Corliss are absolutely fearless. Dude actively seeked out methods to jump out of an airplane without a parachute. That's not suicidal per se, but it is ****ing insane. I always wonder if guys like him, and that free climber guy who recently died have shrunken amygdalas or parts of the brain that don't function which create the normal fight or flight response and regulate our genetically ingrained fears (i.e. don't jump off cliffs...because you die).

Even after X amount of jumps who's to say you could be successful. That's like saying if you take X amount of jump shots you could be Michael Jordan. Not so much.

FWIW I've never been skydiving and probably never will.
