Why does the 1 Liter bottle of Coke cost more than the 2 liter bottle? Why does the 1 Liter bottle of Coke cost more than the 2 liter bottle?

1L are more scarce than 2L. Scarcity drives up price. Simple.

Same reason that 6*231mL glass bottles are like $6.99 while 12*355mL cans are $5.79 (which is troll within itself as the 12 cans used to be $3.99)

If Coke made a rare 0.88L bottle would it be extremely expensive due to being more scarce than both the 1L and 2L? Ima gonna say no.

I'm guessing coke wants consumers to look at the 1L bottle as a supersized version of the 591ml (19 fl oz) bottle rather than a smaller version of the 2L due to fitting into (most) cup holders and easy to hold with one hand.

But it's surprising that the prices aren't flipped on those two bottle sizes.

1 litre is the most inconvenient size possible. They don't fit in the cupholders in your car. 710mL fit but they're tall so they easily topple over. 591mL is the best size in terms of mobile usage. The new 437mL are alright as well. 2L is for fridge use. 1L is for an abomination of portable use. 2L goes flat quickly though so it's crap anyways. A flat of 24*591mL is the way to go but these are virtually impossible to find unless you go to a wholesale retailer.

Rare 0.88mL bottle sounds good.

355mL cans are too cold on your hands and it tastes worse out of the can.

WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH

Can is clearly better than a plastic bottle

A properly mixed fountain is the best, especially with crushed ice varsity style, then the glass bottle if you are willing to overpay, but then its clear can > bottle > poured 2 liter (except with pizza)

I'd say the mexican cokes are the stone cold nuts. Those are the ones that are really tall and made with Carbonated water & sugar instead of american cokes regular water and high fructose corn syrup.

I remember a teacher telling me that from a can of coke, the liquid only costs about 2c and the rest of the price comes from packaging, transport, wages, marketing etc and it blew my mind.

Now I'm all grown up and in the business world it seems totally standard.

I guess that doesn't explain why the 1 liter bottle is actually more expensive than the 2 liter bottle, but why smaller packages are more expensive per unit (milliliter, ounce, whatever). So maybe that coupled with a sale on 2 liters led to this confusing price...
You answered a question everyone already knew the answer to.

No I don't and I really don't care about the process in which carbonated drinks are made. Was just pointing out the differences between the two on the first site I went too.

Get off my nuts, junior.

Coke with sugar is so much better than Coke with corn syrup. It was definitely much less obvious of a difference with the Pepsi and Mountain Dew with sugar, not sure why that was.

Keep an eye out for Coke 2 liters with this cap about this time of year btw:

This is "Passover Coke," and it's the only time you can get 2 liters of Coke with real sugar in the US.
