So, pet people, does your answer change if the stranger is a frightened 3-year-old child?

I don't have some sort of hidden agenda here, just genuinely curious.

i mean if its a loved pet, youve formed a bond with him/her and have taken care of him/her and stuff like that. who is the stranger to me?

id say the pet. if you pick stranger, then you probably havent met "the one" yet - and im talking about in terms of pets.

Lemme guess. You don't have kids.

For those of us that do, answering this hypothetical is even easier than the one posed by the OP.

Re: Who would you save: A beloved pet or a complete stranger?

lol, where do you live that you actually think human decency is common?

anyway the math is pretty simple ~400 million dogs in the world compared to 7+ billion people, it's really not that close especially when you consider how much more of a negative environmental impact a human is going to have.

To all the people that say save the stranger:

If I gave you $1 billion dollars on the contingency that one stranger would die, would you say "Nah" or take the monies?

Re: Who would you save: A beloved pet or a complete stranger?

no seriously, what do you think intrinsically makes a human life more important than the life of a dog? did you read it in the bible or something?

there is a serious human overpopulation problem, that's just reality, people ignore it because they are humans themselves, but it doesn't change the fact that there are way too many people on earth.

As said before, this is bull****. If you own a pet you feed him. People you don't know (strangers) are starving to death and you could use exactly the same money to save one or more of their lives. I am certain none of the "humanists" who own a pet will now decide to let it starve to death and send the same money to a charity that fights hunger.

In fact the majority of people here according to the poll. Also the majority in most other polls I've seen on the subject. Let's say that's representative. So that random stranger you'd save would probably let you die and save his pet. You're going to let your beloved pet die in order to save this disgusting person. And, frankly, that's probably going to be one of that stranger's most endearing qualities.

Sorry, but the stranger should have done a better job of taking care of himself. The dog is my responsibility.
