Who are the most interesting serial killers in human history? Who are the most interesting serial killers in human history?

This has always been a topic of fascination for me. It takes a special kind of coldbloodedness to do what some of these people have done.

Richard Kuklinski
Ted Bundy
Gary Ridgway

These are just 3 of the most notorious I have researched. Bundy I find especially fascinating because he was essentially a normal guy. People liked him, he looked and appeared normal. He was involved in politics. He even worked at a suicide hotline center saving lives.

Yet he would stalk women, bludgeon, rape, dismember them, then have sex with their corpses and bury them. Then he took their skulls home as a trophy. Its difficult to fathom that someone who appeared and behaved normal 98% of the time could commit these acts.

In this thread we discuss the most notorious serial killers in human history and speculate on what caused them to do the things that they did.

I watched a documentary on Fish. Sick ****er.

I wonder if there are any active Bundys, Geins, Dahmers, etc.

When they were active, was the average member of the populace aware that a single person had been responsible for all that they did?

The most interesting ones are probably the ones that never get caught. Most likely some really smart and sick mofos out there.

John Wayne Gacy Jr. (March 17, 1942 – May 10, 1994) was an American serial killer and rapist. He sexually assaulted, tortured and murdered at least 33 teenaged boys and young men between 1972 and 1978 in Cook County, Illinois (a part of metropolitan Chicago).
Quote:
Gacy became known as the "Killer Clown" because of his charitable services at fundraising events, parades, and children's parties where he would dress as "Pogo the Clown", a character he had devised.

Carl Panzram

I actually know a guy irl that is damaged like this guy was from reform school. He's mentioned numerous times at the poker table how he was abused in reform school, and then has made numerous comments to other people he is talking with about how he will take down their pants and rape them right here on the spot. Just a very scary guy with some definite mental illness that I always try to keep on the good side of, while also keeping my distance.

I dont understand some of these stories. "Carl Panzram raped and sodomized over 1000 men and boys".

OK so it like this then apparently. He rapes a grown man, and then its just on to the next! No getting caught, nothing. Just endless raping of people while nobody does anything,

It just doesnt make any sense.

We still had law enforcement. And also less ways to get away from crime scenes.

I've read a ton of books about serial killers.

Killer Clown (Gacy) was the one that got me hooked. Two other excellent ones are Helter Skelter (Manson family) and The Shrine of Jeffrey Dahmer.

Male rape is still under reported, I think it's something like 1 in 10, so I can imagine it would have been even worse back then.

In Gacys case, it apparently didn't matter if it was reported. Just unreal.

Vlad the impaler?

Vlad invited hundreds of them to a banquet. Knowing his authority would be
challenged, he had his guests stabbed and their still-twitching bodies impaled...

On one occasion, he reportedly dined among a veritable forest of defeated warriors writhing on impaled poles.

Yeah, you pretty much just pull up your pants and strap on your belt a little tighter.

What is interesting is that he got away with his crimes. The case was completely cold for 13 years. He opened up his own case not by killing people, but by starting to send letters to the media. He probably wanted to get caught, either for relief or perhaps wanted to claim the notoriety.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Rader

Dennis Lynn Rader (born March 9, 1945) is an American serial killer who murdered ten people in Sedgwick County, Kansas between 1974 and 1991.

He is also known as the BTK Killer or the BTK Strangler. "BTK" stands for "Bind, Torture, Kill", which was his infamous signature. He sent letters describing the details of the murders to police and local news outlets before his arrest. After a decade-long hiatus, Rader resumed sending letters in 2004, leading to his 2005 arrest and subsequent guilty plea. He is currently serving ten consecutive life sentences at El Dorado Correctional Facility in Kansas.
