I just won a gold-plated LG phone supposedly worth about $1500. But they said I have to sign an eligibility form and get it notarized. How does I do that?

Most Fedex/Kinko's locations have notary services.

Banks often do as well. If you know any attorneys, they often can notarize stuff too.

Any Mailbox Etc type place should have notary services. If you work in an office one of your admins might be a notary.

Banks. My local M&T bank was easy, and they didn't charge me. But I'd call to see if a notary is in.

Kinko's offer notary service, but they probably charge. Call ahead as well, notary isn't always in.

Any lawyer will do but they will charge you more so just look up public notary in the phone book and call the one closest to you. Actually you can probably just type in notary,city,state and google maps will give you a list from which you can pick the closest one.

If you're a shut in or baller enough to pay the extra there are a lot of mobile notaries that will come to you.

I had to do something similar when I won monies in an online fantasy baseball league - the notary at the bank worked fine.

Any place that advertises notary services is going to charge you for it...i.e. Kinko's or anything in the phone book. I'd expect maybe in the ten dollar range.

Free options:
1. Your bank/credit union. (random bank may not do it if you don't have an account there)
2. If you are in college, registrar's office or library probably has one.
3. what other people said, just call first.

Hope your not getting scammed, a notorized eligibility form to enter a contest after you've already been told you won sounds very fishy. I'd be very reluctant to give them any info beyond my name and address.

What they said, but with a couple caveats.

Attorneys in most states cannot automatically notarize, unless they become notaries independently. Being a licensed attorney does not automatically make you a notary except in a few states.

California has the tightest notary laws. The cost and effort to become a notary is higher, so banks and schools etc. have less notaries and are less likely to notarize for free. A couple years ago when visiting San Diego, after striking out at a branch of my bank and elsewhere, I ended up at a mailbox plus type place that charged me $20/page. What a racket.

ok I got it done at my bank for free, thx peeps.

I'm pretty sure getting a notarized eligibility form is standard for winning anything over like $1k, so I don't have any reason to believe it's not legit.

There was a website where you put in your name and address every day for a few months to win one of these phones (Roboform FTW), I don't remember how many were given away for this contest. About a week later I got an email from the company running the contest saying I had won and I had to sign and notarize an affadavit of eligibility. I sent that in and they shipped me the phone yesterday.
