What's the worst dream you ever had? What's the worst dream you ever had?

It could be a nightmare, could be a vision or something that can true after dreaming it.

My lucid dream was almost surreal and yet at the same time real. Nothing special really just odd.

I was sleeping in my bed (I live alone) and I could feel and see my body being thrown out of my body and that I was left a shell of a person, if that makes sense.

As if there was another me (body like mine in me) and that something through it out, and I landed head first on the floor at the foot of the bed. Like a rag doll no life left in this body that was hurled out of myself. I was left a gazed and felt nothing. The body had crumpled over, legs and arms buckled, head first into the floor. I only seen the back of the head but yet I knew the eyes where black. The weird thing was I was aware that I was dreaming and it felt so real because I almost could touch my bed in my dream (even when the same room) I could almost touch the body that came out of me. It was weird.

Anyway what is the weirdest/worst dream you ever had?

It's weird for me that you posted this today, I had a very strange lucidish dream last night.

Something was happening that was scaring me, I can't remember what it was. I kept waking up, but was still asleep and then I'd 'fall back asleep', then wake up again in another dream. When I'd 'wake up', I was in my bed and could sort of tell I was still asleep, sort of couldn't. I'd just keep doing this over and over again, probably a dozen times or so moving in and out of different dreams while half thinking I was awake/half thinking I was asleep.

Very strange.

Edit: Worst dream I've had though, when I was a kid I had a recurring dream that my sister and I were Hansel & Gretel and my mum was the witch. She'd lock us in the oven and we'd escape through the back door. I'd always wake up just before we got down the driveway.

I dreamt on Friday night that Swindon drew 2-2 with York to ruin my 14 team acca for £60k

York were actually playing Stevenage the next day so I bet on 2-2.. was 2-2 after 74 minutes but York scored ruining my growing belief I could dream the future

Had a dream that I came home and found a lathe in my living room, a plane on a treadmill in my backyard, and in my basement there were numerous 5 year-olds plotting to kill me.

Several times I dreamt that I defecated out of my mouth. I really dreamt that and it was quite disgusting. But I wouldn't say it was my worst.

Any time I've had the flu and was delirious where I had a painfully repetitive dream where I felt I had to keep thinking hard to solve some kind of logic puzzle, that would have to be the worst.

But the dream that would appear worst to an outsider may well be the dream where I followed a girl from work that I like upstairs in some random house and into the bathroom. Inside the bathroom I looked in the mirror and saw my face except that my eyes were bright and shining in a sinister way that made me look like a demon, and I just laughed at myself in a wicked fashion. The dream certainly had to do with extreme sexual/emotional repression IMO.

dream about an ex quite often, each time i wake up sad. i hope some day i miraculously save the world which could lead her to accepting my apologies, tho probably not. we don't even talk in the dreams. they're set in either a vacation or a re-creation of a place we'd been before. i just wander about aimlessly while my heart bleeds; while she stands behind a wall unaware. an avoidant/schizoid bro falling in love with a very mildly borderline girl, oh what could go wrong. why couldn't she have met me 5 years before, or 5 years after? why did the self-reflection leading to my betterment have to be contingent on wrecking a kind and determined person? i'll never know, just keep on dreaming instead.

Mostly only the cosmic and bizarre happen to me in sleep mode. I do recall being six-years-old and waking up horrified. I was standing in line at Taco Bell with my Grandma, when all of a sudden I was naked. A cloud started thunder-storming above my head, while Grandma stood there doing nothing, NOTHING. I plead, "Why Grandma? Whyyyy?" And then I awoke.

--When I was a kid, my mother made me wear these ugly green rubber boots on rainy or snowy days (with my pants tucked into them, to make them even more conspicuous). All the other kids just wore their normal shoes. I've never been fashion-conscious by any means, but I found those boots humiliating. It would lead to dreams about showing up to school naked, wearing only those boots, and being laughed at.

--One time I got a job in one of those old 19th century mill buildings still standing by the Merrimac river near my hometown. These buildings are not very tall, but up to a mile long. They were textile mills when they were built, but have since been reinvented as office space, retail outlets, lofts, etc. Any way, this particular long-neglected building was going to be rehabbed for the 100th time, and I was hired on as part of a crew to gut the building. They handed me (and a few other guys) ice scrapers (imagine a garden hoe, only the blade sticks straight out instead of at a 90 degree angle the way a hoe does), and our job was to remove the floor tiles--the 1'x1' off-white floor tiles that had been glued to the floor years ago during its last incarnation as office space.

So imagine you're in a long room the size of several end-to-end football fields, bent over, removing floor tiles one square foot at a time. You keep looking up to see if you're almost finished, and you can still barely see the other end of the room, it's so far away. Day after day, eight hours/day, doing nothing but this Sisyphus routine.

Yeah, that job led to some bad dreams at night (like being chased around that room by a swarm of flying off-white floor tiles, with nothing to fight them off with except an ice scraper)...

--Speaking of job-related dreams, nothing annoyed me more than being awakened by dreams of annoying poker players I deal to being extra annoying (in dreams, every player at the table was a Who's Who of the worst offenders). I would wake up, realize that I was in bed and not at work, and curse the fact that I couldn't keep that crap out of my mind when I was at home. That was when I was new at this job; fortunately, I'm past that now.

--But the grand-daddy of them all:

COWORKER: Hey, YTF, how you doing?

YTF: Not good, actually. It's weird. I had a dream last night, and it was so disturbing, I'm STILL not over it. It's really got me down.

COWORKER: Really? Actually, that's a hobby of mine, analyzing dreams, and what they mean. If you want to tell me about it, I might be able to help you with this.

YTF: Is that right? Heh. Well, I've been looking for an excuse to tell SOMEONE, just to get it off my chest, so here goes: I dreamed that I had my oldest daughter in her stroller for a walk in my neighborhood. We walked down to the park around the corner. There were some kids playing baseball, and a guy had his dog. Suddenly the dog gets loose--a pitbull, naturally--and attacks my baby girl. He's got his jaws locked on her head. I'm punching it, it won't let go. I grabbed a bat from the kids playing ball, I'm bringing it down on the dog's head--it won't let go! I woke up just as it started tearing my daughter to shreds.

COWORKER: (nodding knowingly)

YTF: I've never been so upset in my life. I got up in the middle of the night, and I couldn't help myself, I just HAD to go into my daughter's room and make sure she was all right. I checked in on the other kids, too. Of course, they were sleeping peacefully, it was all just a dream--but I still went downstairs, sat in a chair, and cried uncontrollably for about an hour.

COWORKER: That's pretty common. You were punishing yourself. You've done something recently that you feel very guilty about, and this was your way of beating yourself up over it.

YTF: (wide-eyed) I *did* do something recently that I feel very guilty about! I gambled away some money that I really couldn't afford to lose.

COWORKER: There you go.

YTF: I can't believe how much relief I feel right now. Thanks!

(nor can I believe how tense my body got just now, typing up/reliving that dream all these years later...)

Dreamed the other day that my parents decided to have the dog put to sleep because he's "too old". He's 14, so he is old, but there's not a thing wrong with him. He's a small dog who gets walked for 2+ hours at least twice a week (brother has mild autism and this is one of his routines). The dog is therefore more fit than anybody else in the family - lean and well defined muscles,

Despite all of this, my parents thought it'd be best to have him put down, despite my protestations. Bizarrely they hired a vet to come to the house and he stuck the needle in and went. For a little while the dog seemed unaffected and I allowed myself to believe that he wasn't going to die. After a while, it became apparent that he was slowly deteriorating, and then he died in my arms. Then I woke up.

Don't know what triggered this except I really love my dog. I only see him 4-5 times a year as I don't live near my parents. I suppose I was just missing him.

After my dad died in a plane crash, I made the horrendous mistake of viewing his body. I then had a sequence of repeated dreams where he's starting a chainsaw at the entrance of the barn at our farm. I'm at the far end of the barn and I perceive something is about to go horribly wrong. I race for the entrance, screaming, but Dad is turned away from me and he can't hear me: he has ear protectors on and is leaning over, trying to start the chainsaw. As I run, he starts the chainsaw, trips, and impales himself on the moving saw. Blood and guts and death everywhere.

I had this four or five times in the following six months, and woke up bolt upright in bed with my heart rate somewhere around 170, drenched in sweat. Only true nightmare I've ever had.

I don't like to revisit bad dreams, but I remember a few nightmares from my late teens/early 20's involving some demon like, moth-man type thing coming at me, accompanied by the smell of burning rubber. Really unpleasant. Remember trying to wake myself up during them.

But, if you want to try for some new lucid dreams without going through the work to get them, score some Chantix.

Warning, in people who are subject to any depression, acute exacerbation is a concern with this drug so don't play with it.

Otherwise, besides totally blocking your nicotine receptors, you get long, detailed, lucid, sometimes very strange dreams. I never had a nightmare with it, but woke up sometimes feeling like I had been to a Total Recall store.

Too many bad dreams to remember. I'd probably say the one where needles were pushed through my fingernails, or the one where I was on a plane that was going down and I knew I was about to die.

Funny how many childhood dreams I had forgotten about, but things mentioned ITT bring back the memory. Someone naked in public in a dream? Yeah, I had that, but with green boots.

Now we get torture dreams? I used to think our giant cheese grater was a terrifying thing, so naturally I had dreams of that thing being dragged over my face. I read once about a maniac who used pliers to pull a woman's nipples off...guess what image graced my dreams for a while after that?

I had forgotten about all these things, until this damned thread entered my life. Thanks, OP.

After my Dad died, he was in my dreams as a zombie (could talk, but was dead) almost every night for about a year.

That was the most troubling dreaming issue I've had because it went on so long.

I've dreamt that my kids died once or twice and that was worse as a one-off.

My Dad didn't have a violent death, but seeing his body and helping the guys move it was a big mistake.

I don't really dream too often, since I usually smoke weed before bed and for one reason or another makes me incapable of remembering dreams.

But I've had a few that have stuck out over the years.

When I was young, my mom was sick so I let my dad sleep in my bed and I took the floor right next to my bed. I distinctly remember feeling as if I was lifted about 6 inches off the floor and was pulled/floated underneath my bed. It seemed real at the time since I woke up remembering thr feeling of being pulled under the bed. Freaky **** when you're young.

I had a recurring dream everytime I got the flu when I was a kid. All that I could remember from it was what I can only call a giant spool of yarn chasing me through a mall. I distinctly remember this happening 3 times in my childhood and every single time I'd wake up with the flu.

Last one was the most recent. I was in the middle of quitting cigs and had been wearing nicotine patches. I fell asleep with one on and woke up in a way I never have as an adult. I shot up out of bed, sweating, scared and confused as to what I just saw/felt. It was the most realistic dream I've ever experienced and all I can relate it to is the movie Pan's Labrinth. The dream was filled with important people in my life and every one of them was being accosted or taken away by these Pan's Labrinth looking creatures and I could do nothing about it. It was so real and ****ed me up mentally for a few days.

For several years I've had this recurring dream. I'm at my parents old house. It's about 2pm. I'm in my bedroom and the air is heavy. My younger brother, about 5 years old, and sister, 3 years old, are in the other side of the house.

I have this intense feeling that something is wrong. We need to leave immediately. It starts getting dark even though it's daytime. I tell them we're leaving. I get their shoes and push them out the front door before they can even get them on. I'm right behind them. I get to the doorway when i feel IT right behind me. I don't know what it is, but it's there. The room all around the front door is black. It's as if the sun outside can't get through the door way.

I lunge forward pulling the door shut behind me as hard as I can but it stops before it latches. Something pulls back from the inside and I stumble back inside. I burst out of the house and see my brother screaming and holding out his hand. I can't look back, I'm almost out. A force grabs me and i am dragged midair back inside and the door slams shut...

I dreamed once that my Mom had died and woke up thinking it was true for about 30 seconds.

Worst most "unnatural" dream I can recall (and I don't remember much about my dreams, I never had) was one time I dreamed about a cat being nailed to a floor and gutted alive. This was immensely distressing to me, as I love cats, and while I often read books about serial killers and have no problem with disturbing thoughts after reading about what they've done to their victims, if they ever mention animal torture it makes me upset.

Something about hearing about someone torturing a cat sets me off on a very visceral level, and having a dream that involved a cat being tortured was the worst thing I've ever dreamed to date. Just typing this out has upset me. I need to go pet my cats.

I was about 5 or 6 years old when I had this dream.

My mother is driving me out to see my grandparents who live in the country. Along the way there isn't much to see but cows and the accompanying white cowbirds(cattle egrets).

Mom pulls the van over next to a pasture so we can look at the cattle on the other side of the barbed wire fence. All of a sudden, who do I see in the pasture before me but the biggest cowbird of them all! The mother****ingly terrifying Vlasic Pickle Stork! And for some reason he wants to hurt me!

Luckily, strewn along the shallow ditch that I'm standing in are the variety of balls from my babysitter's house. So I begin to hurl them at him dodgeball style. I look over at my mom, but instead, she has transformed into my older cousin Thomas who is lying down in the ditch with a ball in his hand. He says, "play dead and when he gets close throw a ball at him!" Thomas was always coming up with great strategies like that.

I look over at the stork and he's coming through the gate about 10 feet away from me. I'm very scared.

Then I woke up.
