What is your go to shared appetizer to bring to a party? What is your go to shared appetizer to bring to a party?

With so many holiday parties, football get togethers, and every other reason to hang out and get fat this time of year, I'm noticing a trend. People definitely seem to have their own go to dish that they have mastered and bring to every get together they go to.

I'm usually the guy who shows up with a case of beer, chips, salsa, and guac.

Some real winners I have seen lately are stuffed mushrooms (no idea what went in these, but the were awesome), bacon wrapped jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese (awesome), pasta salads, dips, antipasti platters, etc.

I figure it's about time for me to figure out how to put some effort in to this.

So what is your go to?

Bacon jalepenos are awesome and pretty easy. I prefer a strip of bacon on top rather than wrapped. Healthier and goes a long way

good call for a thread

among other things, i have made:

-meatballs (the grape jelly and chili sauce recipe... people dig it)
-pigs in blankets (lil smokies wrapped in croissant dough and baked)
-chips and cheese sauce (tortilla chips, sauce is made from velveeta, can of no beans chili, and a jar of salsa in a crock pot)
-buffalo chicken dip
-fritos scoops and a baked dip made from a bottom layer of neufchatel cheese, then can of no beans chili, then a layer of shredded cheese, then chopped jalapenos and/or olives. great for football games!
open a thing of cream cheese onto a nice plate. dump a jar of candied jalapenos on top. serve with wheat thins. eat the whole thing. feel fat, but awesome.

and the crowd-pleasing favorite:

texas caviar:

can of black beans, can of pinto beans, drained and rinsed
can of shoe-peg corn, drained
1 red, 1 yellow, 1 green pepper, seeded and chopped
1 red onion, chopped
1 jalapeno, seeded and chopped

mix 1 cup sugar, and 3/4 cup apple cider vinegar in a pot on high heat til it boils. simmer for 5 minutes, then chill while you chop veggies. mix it all together in a large bowl, cover and refridgerate overnight. stir again in the morning. drain and serve with baked tostitos scoops or your preferred dipping chip. its delicious. every time i have made it, someone has asked for the recipe

enjoy!

That's my "go to"... Has to be on the grill though.

Second favorite would be a simple 7-layer dip: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/seven-layer-dip-i/. I also like Jalapeno sausage with pretzel sticks -- Fast and Easy, but kinda sucks the longer it is out though.

These have always been a hit for me and most people have never heard of them, so you can guarantee no one else will be bringing them.

the drunken gummy bears is pretty sweet!

I like jalapeno poppers (Atomic Buffalo Turds) on my smoker. Jalapeno, cream cheese, smokie sausage wrapped in bacon and smoked ftw.

Also like cutting up chicken breasts and wrapping in bacon and putting it into my smoker and finishing with a little bbq sauce.

Crab stuffed mushrooms are always a winner no matter what.

Chicken lolipops...scrape raw meat on chicken wingette to the end so the bone is exposed and the marinate/grill to basically have a lolipop.

Wow, I'd never heard of Buffalo Chicken Dip previously, and while I can't explain exactly why, even though it obviously just has the same ingredients as other buffalo chicken things, this sounds vile.

Any kind of shredded meat in a slow cooker with bbq, buffalo or teriyaki.

Mini reubens or rachels.

Friends seem to love the crab rollups I make. Cut the crust off white bread and flatten with rolling pin. Mix some velveeta cheese and cayenne pepper together and spread on bread. Add mock crab meat and rollup. Cook until golden brown in oven. Sprinkle with seaseme seeds, toothpick and cut into quarters. Have to serve right out of the oven. Ghetto as heck but a crowd pleaser.

They're amazing and don't even taste like vodka. The general response from the crowd when you show up with them is "WTF is that?" By the end of the night everyone is telling you how much they ****ing rocked.

Second this. Try mixing some smoked trout in with the yolks and top with crumbled bacon and or blue cheese.

^wow those look awesome (I think I prefer the wrapped bacon but gouda filling sounds great)

pro tip: Some people get a burning feeling in their hands when they work with jalapenos. I thought it wouldn't happen to me but I was wrong. Not the end of the world but an annoying feeling for a couple hours. Wear gloves or plastic bags when you cut and scrape the seeds to be safe.

Usually after cutting jalapenos I get a burning in my eyes... typically after forgetting to wash my hands and then rubbing my eyes

Not mine, but probably my all time favorite is when someone brings some kind of sausage/cheese melt on party rye. I really should learn how to make those.

My favorite thing to bring is bacon crackers. They're easy and delicious.

saw the thread title and came here to post the same thing (or something pretty similar). Also known as 'cowboy caviar'. the version i know uses avacado and replaces pinto beans with black-eyed peas. Must let it sit overnight to let the flavors blend.

Ham and Cheese sweet rolls

12 slices deli ham (salty or sweet to fit your taste)
18 slices swiss cheese
12 Hawaiian dinner rolls
Mayo
1.5 TBSP mustard (recipe called for dijon but I use reg yellow)
1 tsp onion powder
.5 tsp worstershire sauce
1 stick butter
1/4 cup brown sugar

Cut rolls in half. Knife on a tsp or 2 of mayo onto the top. Take 1.5 slices cheese and wrap one slice ham. Place on bun and close. Repeat 12 times. Place tightly together on foil lined baking sheet.

Melt butter and add the rest of the ingredients. Mix well. Brush or pour over the tops of rolls. Cover with foil and cook 10 min in oven on 400. Uncover and cook an additional 10 min or until tops are brown.

These reheat in the oven very well. We have also put them in a large crockpot on warm to reheat and they were pretty decent.

My stuffed celery (well my Mom's) is a hit everywhere I take them.

1 package Philly cream cheese
1 bottle of green olives with pimento's
2 stalks of celery

Clean the celery and cut into an inch long pieces. Drain the olives and chop them as best as possible. Mix the olives with the cream cheese in a bowl. Stuff the celery with the mixture. Easy and cheap to make and pretty damn good.
