What podcasts do you listen to? What podcasts do you listen to?

I travel a lot and I am beginning to prefer podcasts over audiobooks because the podcasts are typically an hour-ish long and easier to stay with. Right now I'm subbed to

-Norm MacDonald Live (he's ****ing hilarious, this one has only been out for a short time)

-Adam Carolla & Dr Drew (Adam has gotten a bit too political in recent years which has somewhat tapered my enthusiasm for this one, but I watched Lovelines a lot when it was on MTV and Adam still brings the laughs and has a good rapport with Drew)

-WTF with Marc Maron (he interviews comics in his garage, the recent interview with Hank Azaria was very good)

-Penn's Sunday School (Penn Jillette on religion)

-This American Life (from NPR, great stories from real life)

-Le Show (Harry Shearer's weekly show from NPR)

Are there any others that are can't miss?

Joe Rogan Experience but he posts a lot of them and they're sometimes 3 hours long. I mostly skip the ones with MMA fighters as guests since that's not something I care about. Also check out the Bill Burr podcast. I should check out the Norm MacDonald podcast. Doug Stanhope just started podcasting too. I guess that's probably enough comedians for you but if not check out Ari Shaffir's Skeptic Tank.

Thanks you're actually the second person this week to recommend this one, will definitely give it a shot.

And uncensored Norm MacDonald is something everyone should experience. I just looked and you can actually get his video podcasts on Youtube. He's gained a crapload of weight since he hosted High Stakes Poker (they joke about it a lot).

I also was disappointed in "Stuff You Should Know," several people raved about this one and I've heard two episodes and found it boring as hell.

That one went downhill fast after the host change. The chick doesn't cut it.

I usually listen to the hospital records podcast (mostly music) and the 2+2 pokercast, looking for some new ideas though so will keep an eye on this thread.

I really enjoy most of the Grantland podcasts. Jalen Rose is always hilarious and gives great insight into the world of a professional athlete. Jacoby's reality television breakdowns are also great if you like reality tv, some people have said they listen even though they don't watch much reality tv and still enjoy.

My favorite, surprisingly, is a new one called Girls in Hoodies, where three of the female writers on the site discuss pop culture and the zietgeist.

How Did This Get Made is consistently hilarious, every fortnight they pick a bad movie that is usually good/bad but often bad/bad and rip into it. It helps to have watched the movie even if it was a long time ago, but its still funny if you havent.

Nerdist is a standard recommendation.

Making It with Riki Lindhome is either dead or on hiatus but its really good with interviews of creative people like directors, actors and musicians who made it in the industry and it has a lot of crossover appeal in motivation and GTD even if you arent in a creative profession.

Comedy Bang Bang is really long running and depending who is on can be hilarious or a waste of time. Its basically extended improv comedy that usually involves the host who has done comedy for decades, a celebrity or mostly famous person as themselves often as a caricature and an experienced improv comic doing a character.

Comedy Central Stand-Up is a daily video podcast that is from their huge archive where they usually have a joke or two as a section of each comic's previously recorded CC special cut together with there being four or five comics per ep.

Global News by the BBC World Service has twice daily casts that last around 20-25 min covering the big stories.

1. Joe Rogan Experience - Episodes with scientific experts and some comedians/actors are great. However 3 hour long episodes of Ari Schaffir and other deadpan comics who I don't personally find funny aren't worth my time. I've listened to most of the close to 400 podcasts but many drag on and aren't nearly as entertaining in the 3rd hour.
Nevertheless, still the best podcast on the internet.

2. Bill Simmons B.S. Report

3. Freakonomics Radio

4. Hardcore History with Dan Carlin

Don't got time for anymore. Used to listen to Bill Burr's MM but it quickly became repetitive.
Listen to them in the car to/from work and around the house sometimes. Also at the gym.

Filmdrunk Frotcast- in theory about movies, really about dicks jokes and poop- really great.

Firewall and Iceberg (Alan Sepinwall and Dan Fienberg's TV review podcast)

Rope of Silicon/Brad N. Laremy on Movies - movie review podcast from two Seattle film critics

Solid Verbal - college football

House to Astonish - two UK comic book reviewers.

War Rocket Ajax - comics and pop culture

MGoBlog's MGoPodcast Mostly Michigan football, some other Mich sports.

Scientific Podcast Goes Boink (from progressiveboink.com)- random stuff, some wrestling, mostly good, sometimes 40 minutes of the hosts patting eachother on the back for being super enlightened.

Fangraphs Baseball - listen for Dayn Perry (not about baseball) and Dave Cameron (baseball) and avoid everything else because only with those two is the host's aspy nature contained enough to be listenable

StatCorner Podcast - Mariner's baseball (formerly the lookoutlanding podcast)

Free Darko Presents: The Disciples of Clyde - basically dead and when it lives it's a shadow of itself because I'm pretty sure one of the hosts had a stroke and turned into an idiot, but was a GOAT NBA podcast.

CBS Sports Eye on College Football - ldo

How has Jay Mohr's podcast not been mentioned yet? Definitely on par with some of the ones mentioned so far.

I also second Bill Burr's podcast. Perfect for Mondays IMO.

Newest find: dvdasa

Artist David Choe, Porn star Asa Akira, comedian Yoshi Obayashi talk about ****ed up ****. This one isn't for everyone, and can be a bit hit or miss. Guests about half the time. anywhere from lisa ling, porn stars, other renegade artists, joe rogan.

Completely done with Carolla. Fan back to pre-mtv days, and he's just a drunk venting at this point. zero original material.
The Dr Drew podcast (drew solo) can be ok, depending on guest.

Men in Blazers (grantland) is a must listen if you have even the slightest bit of interest in SOCCER.

Hardcore History with Dan Carlin

Guy has a great voice to listen to and goes in serious depth of issues you thought you knew a reasonable amount about. He reads primary source material as well as what has been written about by historians.

His Common Sense podcast is also good though highly political, and should appeal to the large amount of libertarians on this board. He does a good job of showing how broken our 2 party system is.
