I work in a small office within a warehouse for a medium-sized manufacturer. Anyway, within the warehouse there is plenty of action going on between alot of employees. I carry a reputation as the resident "bookie". There's a couple guys I do parlay cards for, and I'll pretty much book almost any bet for someone who runs their mouth about some prediction they have. It's definently profitable for me as I'm the only one there with the any real knowledge of odds.

About my shift supervisor. We've known each other since I started working their 7 years ago. He was doing same entry level job I started at and he eventually got promoted to lead then shift supervisor. I since got promoted to a job in the office. We've been friendly with each other over the years. Not best friends in the world, but we've gone golfing together a couple dozen times over the past 4 years. We've gone to a few sporting events together as well. He's not a high-stakes bettor. He has a reputation as a tight-wad who is tough to get a bet out of. He doesn't oppose gambling and he participates in all the sports discusssion that goes on at work. Every now and then you can squeeze a small $5 bet on something silly, but not often. He also has a slight reputation as a sheister when it comes to these small bets. He's made these bets in the past with small play-on-words which he uses to weasel out of the action. He thinks he's a real smart guy pulling these stunts.

Anyway, preseason I'm doing my usual thing booking bets, and we got to the point where I mentioned I really like Carolina Panthers as a sleeper this year. He runs his mouth how Cam Newton sucks, and the coaching staff blows, and I told him I'd bet Carolina to make the playoffs if he gave me odds. He actually jumped at it because he was so sure of his Carolina opinion. We negotiated 4-1 in the presence of 3 other people. He's a small timer tight-wad so we just went $10 to win $40.

This past Friday, there was 3 of us in the office (Him, a lead, and me) and a discussion came up about it and he's like, "Oh I'll probably have to pay $10 to 'DeepFriedTurkey' for that Panthers bet." Umm.. Say What?! "Umm, You gave me 4-1 on that". "No, that was straight up." he says. At this point I'm just getting visibly jacked but just looking away from him at my computer. Not that $40 matters to me, but the fact that he would pull this ****ing **** really pissed me off. At some point I just get ****ing pissed and say "I knew you were going to pull some **** like this, just like you did with 'X'." X is another guy in warehoue where he pulled one of his play-on-word games to weasel out of some action earlier in the year.

Anyway, this is where he goes flying off the handle and starts acting like a total baby. Pretending to be all pissed off for me questioning his integrity or something, then starts throwing money at me, "Here's your ****ing $40" and blah blah.. I'm just like, "I don't want your money I didn't win it yet", and he's just being a total douchebag about it and storms out of the office. There were just a couple hours left in the day when this happened and we just avoided each other the rest of the day after we both calmed down. We didn't say a word.

Anyway, I'm don't even know what advice I'm asking for. It just feels good to get this idiotic story over $40 off my chest. I gotta go back to work tomorrow and gotta deal with him. I'd like to just cancel the whole bet because the money will feel tainted to me, and I really don't want a bad relationship with a guy who could probably find things to write me up for. How should I handle this crap going foward?

You guys are both idiots. He has a reputation as an angler and you booked a bet with him. He paid you the money, albeit angrily and you said you didn't want it. How do you handle what? You don't want his money for this bet, so that's over. Don't bet with him in the future.

Oh I do want the money. The bet isn't over yet though. Carolina is in good shape, but they haven't clinched the playoff spot yet (still not a sure thing either). He threw his money on the floor, I wasn't just going to pick it up and put it in my pocket.

I DEFINENTLY will never bet with him again. I just didn't think he would pull that **** on someone who would be considered a friend.

I guess this is one of those "Do you wanna be right, or do you wanna be happy?" spots. Cuz Im sure theres no way to get some POS angle shooter to man up. Hes just gunna be pissy and butthurt (like hes shown). So you can take him to the mat over the bet and hope hes not such a dbag that he makes your life rough for it, or you can just drop it, forget the whole thing, and never ever book action with him again.

As a solution, find someone who angleshoots even more than your supervisor and make another football bet with them.

Surely you will nevr encounter this problem again.

panthers were 2-1 to make the playoffs in the preseason, but you took advantage of your boss' naivete to negotiate 4-1. sounds like you are the scumbag in this situation
