if this kind of lion is endangered, the ONLY way it will survive is if rich whitey is willing to pay thousands to shoot it. that's the only incentive for the locals to keep it around. otherwise, there's a F*CKING LION running around in their village and they will kill it themselves and all they will get is a few meals and a hyde. nobody wants a lion in their back yard. and nobody in america will ever know or care.
easy to feel sorry for the lion when you're safe and sound in america where your only wildlife threat is the occasional ******ed deer that can't avoid a car. we would much rather that majestic lion can be free and safe in the warm embrace of mother nature so it can die of thirst or starvation instead of a bullet.
Case in point -Ducks Unlimited, where the efforts and money of duck hunters have done a lot wrt wetlands conservation.

Not inside, but maybe around. The guide's land is next to the reserve and the lion walked out of the reserve onto the guy's "ranch".
I'm not a big fan of baiting on a hunt, but it's long been a standard practice in Africa, especially for leopards. Here in the U.S. it's common for people to grow feed plots to lure deer onto them. I grew up in a hunting culture where it was illegal to bait critters (Arizona) so it seems uncool to me, but it's been a standard practice for a long, long time in various hunting situations.
