Re: Twitter
Haven't opened twitter in ages but I remember reading Tina Fey's page a while back, it was random/awkward/funny...

Hopefully you'll update here in a few weeks or however long and post whether you are a convert, or you just got briefly suckered by the hype.
Part of the problem, however stupid, is the terminology. 'Tweet'. 'Twittering'. It's ****ing terrible. But then again, I still hate the term 'Blog', 'Blogger' etc. Stupid terminology can make it hard to see the positives in a technology.
And ultimately, with this 'microblogging' there is absolutely no reason that 'Tweets' are updated any faster updates than 'Blogs'. When I look at a page of 'Tweets' (ffs, kill me now!), it looks much less useful, enticing, informative etc etc etc than even the most basic Wordpress site. So yeah, I still don't get it as a standalone. As rapid web publishing develops into lots of these different components / services that can each be embedded into web pages in all sorts of different ways, then it will be much more interesting. But as a standalone service, it does nothing for me atm.

I understand this point of view.
For example, with Wordpress you can email-to-post, so by sending an email from your phone you can post a new entry. There is also an iphone WP app coming out for easy posting w/ pictures, etc.
With twitter, however, you can still SMS to post, which means you can have something online within 20-30 seconds of learning about it... it's going to be pretty hard to beat that. Additionally, people generally expect higher quality for full blogs compared with twitter. Posting a 9th grade style text message live on twitter is perfectly acceptable, and so are normal web abbreviations.

Re: Twitter
Open twitter app, click tweet icon, type 140 chars or less, hit send is very ****ing fast.
Worst things about twitter these days:
People #who #abuse #the**** #outof #hashtags
Random spamfish who follow everyone who follows any celeb twitter. No I don't want twitter.com/internetwhore12 following me just because I decided to follow shaq. **** off.

this is what I like best with twitter - just seeing what random topics most people are talking about. Then something will pop up that I hadn't heard on the news yet, and I'll hear about it there first.
It's also a good time waster to type random crap in the search box to see what tweets (?) come up.

@Franchise 60: you and Dids should probably just get on with it and start dating.
Somehow we have managed successfully to direct our comments to a particular poster without needing to use '@', but suddenly now, adding that character makes what was previously cloudy, now crystal clear? It's an EXTRA CHARACTER!

Re: Twitter
Umm... you don't understand the technology or how 3rd party aps like Tweetdeck (seriously gtfo some fire fox extension) use that @ sign.
As an expert at getting pissed off at stupid things, caring about an extra character is the height of dumb.

I'm not talking about on Twitter or related apps - I'm talking about ppl using them in forums posts.

Reason: not that you'll even look at this, seeing as you have me on ignore for no known reason :(
