Should you tell new neighbors/homeowners about negative house history? Should you tell new neighbors/homeowners about negative house history?

I was curious of people's thoughts on this issue. I live where I grew up as a kid, and in the early to mid 1990s, our neighbor to our direct North hung and killed himself in his garage after his wife left him and took the kids.

We've had various neighbors come and go from that house, and finally and unfortunately a family moved in and has stayed for a long time, unfortunately cause I hate them and their ****ing dogs, and it was wonderful when that house was vacant and there weren't people there, but one of the people living there approached me one day while I was working out in the yard to talk about something regarding the fence and it was the first time I spoke with any of them. I felt compelled to ask them if the realtors had told them anything about the house history, about the garage, and they said no they didn't know anything about the history. I then told them I felt like it was the neighborly thing to do to tell them, and I informed them of the incident of the neighbor killing himself in the garage.

I tend to be pretty ****ing ******ed (sofa king we-todded) socially, so I don't know if this is something you should or shouldn't do. What say foot? Should you tell new neighbors and homeowners stuff like this or not?

In general, you should tell them if something happened that actually may have caused damage to the house, but nothing else. Who cares if someone died in the garage, do you think it's now haunted?

Of course, this is based on the desire to be helpful. If you hate the people in (or considering buying) the house, you may wish to do the opposite of what I said above.

I know for a ****ing fact it is haunted. 10000000 ****ing percent without a doubt in my mind.

So the guy killed himself when I was like 14 ... when I was like 16, there was another family living in the house and they had some kids that were a year or two younger than me, and we rode the bus together. One time out of curiosity I asked them, "has anything weird ever happened in the garage?"

I ****ing **** you not, they said

"yes, the radio comes on and off by itself sometimes."

I ****ing ****. You. Not! I ****ing told the kid that the guy that used to live there hung himself in the garage, and they FREAKED the **** out! Seriously, not joking, not making up anything. They said "NOOOOO YOU'RE LYING, STOP LYING," there were literally ****ing angry with me for telling them that.

Here's more true ****. For a good five years or so after that family left, in the middle of the night, especially in winter, I would hear ****ing KNOCKING coming from the god damn garage. It sounded like someone was in the garage knocking on the door, and THE HOUSE WAS COMPLETELY VACANT FOR YEARS! Swear to ****ing god!

Another thing that happened .... so I live pretty damn close to a highway, and about a mile and a half from a gas station. Back in the day when I didn't have a running car, I would trek through the woods on my property to the highway, and then walk down the side of the highway by the treeline to the gas station to get drinks and food and ****, and then walk back home and go home the same way. One night while doing this, I was just getting back to the area where I crossed the fence to get back on my property, and it borders the dead neighbor's property.

As I was climbing the fence to get back into the woods, I felt a WHACK right upside the back of my head, like someone or something just slapped me upside the head. There was no one or nothing there, and I immediately had my mind completely consumed with thinking about that guy that killed himself. My guess is his ghost didn't like me coming near his property and he whacked me in the back of the head.

Every single ****ing word I just told you is 100000% true. I know for a fact, without any doubt in my mind, that that guy is still over there in spirit and it's haunted as ****. I wish he would chase them away.

Sounds like the easiest way to get them to move out would be for you to spend more time in the yard and chat them up every time you see them.

Aah, your thoughts about the death penalty are starting to make more sense now....

Also, until I had some electrical work done on my car recently, the radio randomly turned itself on and off. Or maybe I just thought they did some electrical work, but they actually performed an exorcism.

Oh this is good! I could ask them who their favorite serial killer is! They'll ask me if I shot their dog, it'll be one big neighbor neighbor happy happy!

I'd definitely want to know if one of my neighbors believed in ghosts.

I mean, a 30-year mortgage is standard in the US, and a dog... does not live that long. The delta between signing a mortgage and the dog's death is almost definitely under 10 years.

Meh... keep things topical.

Is it neighborly or is it something else, I think it might be something else.

Many states have a rule that deaths in a home are supposed to be disclosed.

There's some certainty inflation going on itt, what's wrong with being like 90% sure of a thing, if you say you're 95% sure do you assume the listener is going to go 'oh they must be lying' but if you say 10^infinity % sure they'll go 'oh it definitely happened then'. The more certain you appear, the more you should be disregarded

In case you read this with your next account, it was probably a screech owl. I have an owl house in my backyard and one year I was out eyeballing the recently fledged babies and papa owl whacked me in the back of the head. You'd never hear or see him coming in the dark. Or maybe it was a big ass beetle.
