Re: Things you thought were normal... till that fateful, maybe embarrassing, day
When I'd hear that the Hubble has sent back pictures of the most distant places of our universe ever seen I thought that the Hubble was out there in deep space zooming around and taking pictures of these things and sending them back. Did not realize until pretty recently that the Hubble stays in Earth's orbit and just looks at stuff really far away.

I drink about everything with my pinky up. I didnt even notice I was doing it until someone pointed it out while I was drinking lemonade from 1.5 liter bottle.
I belived that soup must always be hot and can not be sweet. I belived that snow-ball soup could only be eatten at winter (because how else do you get snow-balls?!) and how they keep snow-balls from melting in the soup was something that really blew my mind (my mom didnt do a great job introducing me to classic foods and I had never tasted it - otherwise I might have known that "snow-balls" were really just whipped egg-whites).
And I thought that "my pink world" is just the same in English, before I joined 2+2 (apparently its actually "seeing world through pink glasses").
I also eat soup and hot pot with sour cream and fried egg with ketchup (or I just mix ketchup with sour cream, but that not weird, thats just delicious).
And when I was little I didnt get why our alphabet has two letters that are the same (and I still dont get it*).
*Im kidding I applaud our continental part for having a letter only they can pronounce.

When I was a kid I saw a Swastika and thought it looked cool so I would draw them when I was doodling at school. It didn't take long before my mom got a very concerned phone call from my teacher.

Why can we ignore the alternate (i.e. correct) spelling of colored, it has 1,050,000 hits?

Re: Things you thought were normal... till that fateful, maybe embarrassing, day
I was breast fed until I was 5 think momma enjoyed it because 5 is very late for that sorta thing but cant confirm that. Back to the story. She died of cancer when I was 5 and my daddy was a drunk so he didnt even care. Didnt even gota school I thought boobs were for eating so until I was 18 I tried sucking on girls tits until some guy beat me up and threw me in a dumpster. I think he thought he killed me. I went to the hospital and told the nurse what happened and she explained to me girls boobs are not for eating and it should stop being food around 2-3 years old. So I said oh now I understand why I tried suckin on girls boobs before and they ran away. But one time I try suckin on girls boobs on the corner by our old conveneient store. Nice Koreans. Back to story. and she ended up sucking on me but when it was over she wanted money. I didnt have money so I run like the wind.

As recently as least year, I didn't realize you could pick a banana off the bunch and buy just 1 banana. I thought you had to buy the whole bunch. I'm still undecided on whether or not it's proper banana etiquette to do it, but whatever.

It's almost like I was telling a joke.
I'm pretty confident it's a British idiom though so foreign versions can be disregarded.

Re: Things you thought were normal... till that fateful, maybe embarrassing, day
I was in 5th grade when the anthrax attacks were going on. I had no idea what it was so I asked my sister and, being the lovely person she is, she told me it was laughing gas. Of course I believed her.
Fast forward to school a few days later and someone asks the same question. Armed with knowledge I respond, "it's laughing gas!" Everyone laughs as if I had told a joke so I laugh too and don't say anything else. Later I find out just how wrong I was.
