One of my direct reports did this always and it killed me. An escalating series of "hello", with the last few yelled into the phone. Did you really think the problem was that you weren't loud enough?

I would call that guy and wait for the third hello to respond every time.

This joke and it's bff, "if I have an erection for 4 hours I'm calling my <insert something lame and hackneyed here!>" need to pull a Thelma&Louise and disappear forever.

it's always some goddamn woman from 18-99 who has their stupid small dog on their lap and it just angers me. it doesn't help they always suck at driving to begin with.

My dad does this. You can tell after the first hello that there's nobody on the line, so the series of increasingly loud hellos before he hangs up is totally predictable. Another thing he does which is similar is he'll stay on the line way too long with telemarketers. He's not buying anything, but he will patiently answer their asinine questions despite having no interest in what they're selling, and as long as they keep talking he can't hang up. His standards of phone etiquette with telemarketers are no different from his standards with anyone else. Or maybe he's just slow to pick up on the fact that he's getting a sales pitch, I'm not sure.

PM his number and I'll call and fail to respond until he lets out three hellos, then I'll give him some BS sales pitch and see how long I can keep him on. Then I'll be like "EvilSteve says hi" "Who?" "EvilSteve" "Who?" "Your son" click.
