Doesn't matter what you think about the quality. He's so entrenched in culture that it's basically impossible for any separation to come any time soon (like in the next 200-500 years I guess).

His plays are performed probably in every major city on the planet regularly.

Do you think schools will suddenly stop teaching his writing? Do you think actors will stop learning Shakespeare plays because they think someone else's writing is better? No. They will all learn Shakespeare because it's a necessity for them to get work. Talking about lowly local theater performers.

I think so too, but at the very least my point is that he's so entrenched that his fame isn't going to diminish in the next 2-500 years imo. Maybe longer. Even if you think he sucked as a writer.

Like I said, play actors have to learn his material. It's like all people want to see.

Including all the musicians from 200+ years ago, you could say he was the most prolific "composer" of them all. He just used words instead of music.
