I'm in the pub at lunch, reading my book. A woman comes up and says to me "are you a Jew? Because I thought Jews couldn't drink?"

Apparently because I have a beard and wear a suit, I'm likely to be a Jew. I did explain to her that a) I'm an atheist and b) it's only the ultra-orthodox who can't drink (if even then?)

That was weird.

It's worse than that: The only article of clothing that I own that isn't a suit, jeans & jacket, or a white shirt; is a black polo shirt for when it's too hot to wear a white shirt and jeans.

It's the third book in a trilogy, where the first won the Hugo award last year. It's kind of like the old Asminov/Clarke sci-fi, where it's about ideas rather than characters. It's been a trilogy full of ideas I haven't heard before, which is hard to come by in sci-fi these days.

Ordered some limited time grilled chicken thing from McDicks for the first time in years. Got back to the office and it was some deep fried crispy chicken garbage instead.

Next day I pick up a "Cheddar garden salad" from the supermarket and when I get back it's nothing but iceberg and cucumber.
