Re: Summer/Fall 2011 Android Thread

Decided I wanted a bigger screen not just a longer screen and picked up an S3 this weekend. Was going to wait for the Apple reveal on the 12th but the news they are looking to take the S3 off the shelves pushed my decision. Apple email doesn't show up as well in the stock mail app but the gmail app seems to be having the same problems with html mail. Other than that the screen is very nice and having top of the line hardware makes Android so much nicer.

Lol, I know right.

Intel have confirmed its a smartphone being unveiled on the 18th.

When Google finalised the takeover of Motorola one of the first things they did was send a bunch of X Lab peeps there, they are the guys who make the massively forward thinking projects like the self driving cars and the glass project etc, with the sole instruction to push the envelope of what is possible with hardware. Im so excited to have a free upgrade due in the very early part of Q1 next year even if i dont use it on this.

There are solid rumours that there are new phones in Q4 from Motorola with an edge to edge bezel free phone as the first big release under Google management (Sept 15th is the date to watch for that) and the new Razer, HTC is apparently going to upgrade the HOX (if not the HOS too), the Note 2, a bunch of Sony and LG phones just got announced and the new Nexus phone is just around the corner (and rumours have it there will be several Nexus phones).

Even if the S3 objectively remains the best option it will get a good size price drop soon in response.
Yeah, May/June and November/December are usually the best periods to purchase a new Android phone.

Beat: my contract is set to expire at the end of this month...

fyp...
So you have the luxury of waiting a month to get your pick amirite? I've been off contract for almost a year, but nothing desirable has come along yet.

Re: Summer/Fall 2011 Android Thread

The HOX upgrade has been rumoured for a while, it is generally referred to as the HTC One X+, but I have no clue if that is just a name slapped onto it by one journo/blogger that took off or if its an "official" rumour of the name.

If you google around under that name you will see details, here is one I pulled which has benchmarked data which generally turns out to be reliable:
http://www.landofdroid.com/2012/htc-...hmarked-again/

I dont recall where I read about the HTC One S upgrade, it may be getting overlooked because it doesnt really have any competition right now, unlike the HOX which is already struggling to keep up in the two phone race between itself and the S3.

There is also a rumoured 5 inch HTC device on the horizon which has had pictures of it (probably as a rough prototype) leak in the past week. Whether this is the HOX+ or a seperate Note style competitor is just pure speculation right now.

In Switzerland it works differently and if you don't let them know 3 months before expiration that you are going to quit it does automatically renew. Furthermore you need to have a contract, unless you take the prepaid road which is insanely expensive if you use data.

So from brag it returns to beat... I can keep my current phone if I want, but if I chose a new one this month I can get it pretty much for free. However as said this is not the right moment to buy a new one...

Re: Summer/Fall 2011 Android Thread

I love the simple look of them but then I am a huge fan of simplicity and carbon fibre. For some reason I think the battery in the Maxx at 3300 mAh should be bigger if the normal is 2500 but maybe I'm just asking too much.

Not having 4.1.x out of the gate is disappointing but they promise to have an update by the end of the year so meh, it is what it is.

I wish the M had slightly uprated specs on the screen. 4.3" 540x960 is a little larger than it should be with a resolution less than I want. When I upgrade I want top of the line internals and a high res screen that is either "really small" which nowadays means 4" diag or is really large like the Note 2. Ideally I want to go small but if im going 4.7" I want to go ever so slightly bigger for a true tablet experience. But a great smaller top of the line phone surely ISNT asking too much of manufacturers. HTC and now Moto are close with the HOS and the RAZR M but they arent quite there yet.
