It is a special level of douchebaggery to not only deceivingly report a lower profit on your staked amount, but then to defend your actions repeatedly to a poker forum. That's douchebaggery plus stupidity. Or is it douchebaggery plus ignorance. Might be the perfect combination of everything.
I hope for your "friend"'s sake, your friendship is over.

I live in Toronto. I find out my friend is going to Montreal for the weekend. I tell him I want to come. He says "sweet, we'll go halfsies on the gas".
This is in no way stingy.

I'm getting from the tone of CCuster's post that the trip wasn't nearly as far as Toronto to Montreal, asking for gas would be completely standard for that.
If my friend was like hey lets go to X which is a 45 min drive and then asked for gas I would think it was really stingy.

Seriously, thats the first example you think of? Im talking about a scenario like...we are both at house a and he is about to go meet a friend at house B 10 min away in same city and I join. If he asks me for money he is being stingy. obviously if I have a friend who is doing a cross country road trip and I tag along I expect to pay for my share of the gas no question.
ediy: mullen ya, if my friend asked me to go with him somewhere than asked me for gas thats just absurd to me

Re: Stingiest thing you've seen someone do
A good friend of mind and his friend, who I have met before, are planning to stay with me for 4 nights at the Venetian. I had booked the Venetian room through hotwire and had it for 9 days total. Friend of a friend asks in advance how much it will be per person per night for the hotel and I say $50/night/person, or less. The come and stay with me.
For 4 days my friend and I pick up a bunch of small things for friend of a friend, who clearly has less money. Friend of a friend is about to leave and I ask for $45/night (i paid $165/night allin) and friend of a friend completely balks and claims that getting a hotel room with my friend would have been cheaper etc etc. My mind was blown.

I said steeling soda from a fountain is the same as stealing a can of soda, not a car. Way to go though, making something up to make my argument seem ridiculous.

i am rationalizing it, but it's at the side of the argument that i believe rationalization isn't inappropriate. and, again, it's not some where-does-it-end bs where zomg i'm going to rationalize stealing the deep fryer.

I don't feel bad when I steel paper clips from work. I didn't feel bad when I've stolen soda as a poor teenager either; or when I speed or make right on red in NYC. I just recognize that these things are against the law and I am choosing to do them anyway.
