**boggle** Not sure how you can get so uppity about people who don't tip them. I've never tipped them, but that's because I assumed they made a decent hourly wage. Obviously I'll change my attitude now and start tipping - but in America, for the most part, the only vocations where tips are relatively mandatory are waitstaff in sitdown restaurants and bartenders.

Do you tip just because someone picks up your bags and brings them to your hotel room, or drives your taxi to the airport? I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job.

so $137 + ~$110 in tips? over like 4 hours?
solid hourly imo.

I recognize this as Reservoir Dogs, but I don't think you quoted it verbatim. Do some research.

Waitressing is the number-one occupation..for female non-college graduates
in this country. It's the one job basically any woman can get and make a living on. The reason is because of their tips.

stingiest thing I saw last night was at the club there were guys using their hand and drinking out of the 1 bathroom faucet so that they didn't have to buy $2 bottled water. Keep in mind this bathroom was nasty and smelled like piss.

yes because its common knowledge that you tip a bartender. I go to a ton of football/baseball games and really did not know that tipping is standard and am still not convinced tbh.

What does a "volunteer" mean to you? Because to me it means someone who does something without getting paid because they need service hours/want to get in for free/enjoy doing it/want to meet girls/are helping some cause/etc.

In my 20 years of going to games in NY I have never tipped nor have I ever seen anyone around me tip anything more than a keep the change tip for the people walking around selling stuff. I had no idea what so ever that this was standard, and it feels a bit like a level as I'm sure I would have seen it by now at some game somewhere. I have no problem tipping in the future, but this is the first I have heard of this.

It should also be said, If anything I get a hot dog or a Diet Soda and not a beer.

It's really hard to believe it went down that way, because the child support amount is totally irrelevant here. Also, reducing the amount serves to punish the minor child, not just the stingy grandmother. Also, does a judge after the fact in an unrelated case even have the authority to reduce CS payments in a punitive way? WTF?

I call shenanigans on the story.

even without the tips this is large amount of money for the job. when i was in high school, kids would do this at the local college football games and didnt get any money whatsoever. they did it so they could get in for free and most of the time they had to turn kids away cause too many of them showed up.

I remember seeing this in the local news a while back..

BRADENTON — Two Bradenton Police Department officers resigned after they were accused of skipping out on their bills at a local restaurant, according to an internal affairs report released Thursday.

Chris D. Roden, 28, and Timothy S. Miller, 26, both resigned after police found the officers broke departmental policy by not paying for meals at Gecko’s Grill and Pub, 4310 S.R. 64 E., late last year.

In previous interviews with the Herald, Gecko’s management said they had offered law enforcement a 40 percent discount off bills as a way to show them their appreciation for serving the community.

The investigation also revealed the officers could have placed other officers and/or citizens at risk.

While they were eating at the restaurant, they told dispatch they were patrolling neighborhoods miles away, according to authorities.

For example, on Oct. 17, Roden told dispatch he was patrolling a neighborhood in the 600 block of Manatee Avenue East when he was actually eating a bacon cheeseburger at Gecko’s, according to receipt transactions and communications records.
