Yeah, I think this one is a bit close. He could have bent and allowed the wife to come and it's certainly douchey that he was that stuck up about it. But to not go to the dinner at all after he declines your request seems silly.

This just seems more alcoholic-degenerate and completely gross than it does stingy to me. Still enjoyed the story.

Ur not alone with this opinion but no one has ever said I was wrong 'just because I couldn't bring my wife' before. Why not just leave her home for the wedding then? Its not like she was invited to that either.

You're dumb (obv.) but that's exactly why they put milk in bags. It's also more efficient for transporting and I'm sure it costs a lot less than milk in America.

I would have just brought my wife and asked the waitress to give her a separate bill.

But I would also never be close enough with someone this retarded to be in their wedding party. And if I was, I would also be close enough to say 'hahahaha...dude, no. wtf are you talking about?'

Re: Stingiest thing you've seen someone do

Staying at PCA last year, 3 of us in the room, obv we leave it pretty nasty each day and maid does good job of cleaning & not informing the management of the strong 'herbal' therapy that must be going on.

So as we are leaving me and another guy are deciding what we should tip, we figure $120 between the 3 is reasonable so we both put our 2 x $20 flat on the side. Then our tight-ass douchebag friend comes in, who loves to be ballin on a budget, and we say tips for the cleaner on the side.

So he walks over, turns his back to us so hiding the notes, rummages in his wallet and pulls out 4 notes, slips them together with our $20s and stacks them in a nice pile.

I thought it looked a bit sneaky, and knowing he was a tightwad I go over and he has left 4 sexy ass $1 bills. NICE.

I should add that he had approx $1500 in his wallet.

I could go. The issue was if I should go. This wasn't a bachelor party but a thank-you for those participating in the wedding for their time, effort and expense. For an event like this married couples are a package deal imo. I would have rather pissed off my buddy than the old lady. I think I made the rite choice

Re: Stingiest thing you've seen someone do

I worked in a barbeque restaurant as a teenager. One task I did frequently was work the register in our take out area off to the side of the main entrance.

Two incidents that I remember:

A guy walks in and is looking over the menu. He apparently thinks $16 is too much for a full slab of ribs (probably $1 or $2 higher than normal at the time though, whatever).

So he basically stands there for like 5 minutes semi-yelling about how high it is and how we should be ashamed blah blah.

Bear in mind I'm like 16-17. I just sat there in silence when what I wanted to yell back was "HEY DUMBASS, it costs what it costs. I don't own the restaurants, I don't manage it, I don't set the prices. I'm a teenager who makes minimimum wage I have no control over anything. If you don't want 'em, then don't buy 'em"

Other story, woman had called in small order ahead of time (like 1 sandwich or something). She gets there and it's time to pay, like 5.37 or something. She begins freaking out because apparently the price they had quoted her on the phone was without the tax. Basically she's visibily upset and somewhat angry. I'm apologizing for the situation even though I wasn't the one who had anything to do with it. She's all like "You're not really sorry! You say you're sorry but you're not!"

The tax was like 20-30 cents....

Re: Stingiest thing you've seen someone do

I once flipped out at this guy in India for trying to scam me out of about 40 cents.

My dad is notoriously cheap and has been known to refuse to park at a meter to save like a dollar. This is in nyc where a parking spot is an amazing thing to behold and many people pay like $10-$30 to park for a few hours.

kingofnyc - Why would your wife be pissed at something like this?

If I was the one in the wedding party my sig-other would be completely cool with me going to the dinner. Similarly, if my sig-other was in the wedding party and I wasn't invited to the dinner I would also be completely cool with it.

I kind of hate tipping dealers in live tournaments. I always do but it doesn't help that the guy filling out the paperwork "suggests" I tip the dealers before he hands me my money. I know they're losing money not dealing cash games but they already take a cut out of the buy-in.

This reminds me: Amazing that nobody has posted about Patrick Kane yet.

Quote:
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane was charged with attacking a cab driver in his hometown Sunday, a beating that police said was triggered when the driver did not have 20 cents in change to give the player and his cousin.

Buffalo police said the 20-year-old Kane and his 21-year-old cousin, James Kane, had apparently caught a cab from the city's downtown nightclub district at about 4 a.m. The cab driver suffered cuts to his face and his glasses were damaged, police spokesman Michael DeGeorge said.

Both men were charged with felony robbery and misdemeanor counts of theft of services and criminal mischief. Patrick Kane pleaded not guilty in City Court on Sunday, WIVB-TV reported. It was not immediately clear when James Kane will appear in court.

The driver said he was punched and hit by both men because he did not have 20 cents in change to give them, according to the police report.

Re: Stingiest thing you've seen someone do

I consider myself lucky that I got a great life lesson at 18 as a freshman. A classmate asked 20+ people if they wanted to go to lunch on parents visiting day. Of course I thought her folks were going to pay but at the end of the meal her dad took out a pencil and figured out what everybody's share was down to the penny and I had to come up w/ something like $2.89. Exactly.

I remember to this day what I thought: This guy is so ****ed up he just gave me 11 cents change. I will never be like him.

I'm sure if you asked the bride and groom they would say that your wife was invited to the wedding...You probably didn't get an invitation to the wedding since you are in the party, but clearly it is implied that she is invited to that.

Under normal circumstances it is implied that she is invited to the rehearsal dinner too. In this case she was explicitly not invited which is weird and pretty stupid but you just suck it up and go anyways. Your wife has no reason to be mad at you if you go on your own.

I think the issue is that this dinner is really no different than any other sort of dinner party. If a spouse is invited, it's understood that the other half is also invited. There are exception like bridal showers, bachelor parties or even guys/girls nite out. I don't think this is one of those exceptions.

Now of course she could have opted out and not go, but not to be included in the invite to start with is not rite imo.
