I see no reason to help waiters cheat on their taxes. I have to pay income taxes, so can they.

Connecticut. I forgot to add that I worked there during holiday season, and we got a bunch of gift baskets sent to the office from customers and vendors. They took every single one, didn't even open one to share. The sales guy asked us (the 3 women in the office) if we liked the basket he sent us.

We told him we didn't get it, and he said he sent it specifically to the three of us with our names on it because he knew they took the others. So, the receptionist looked in the sons office which still had a bunch of baskets in it, and sure enough, there was "our" basket opened up and picked through. Apparently, they opened the ones they liked for themselves, and we were pretty sure they regifted the others.

The receptionist did the old "Jim, did you see that basket was for us". His reply actually surprised the hell out of me. Instead of denying seeing the tag, he actually owned it. He said anything sent to the office was theirs, whether it was sent attention to us or not. He actually gave the example of "if you order supplies, and the box comes addressed to you, are the supplies yours?"

Not making this stuff up, either. I am being completely serious here, and I can't believe I forgot to include this in my initial post.
I'm pretty sure he is asking if the people you worked for belonged to any specific ethnic group that is known to be stingy/carrying over practices from a foreign country, even if the story itself took place in the United States.

DMC, your stories about your employers and your friend charging you to play Asteroids pretty much take the cake for me in this thread, which is really saying something. Maybe there is a sense of pride in being a firsthand witness to such incredible gall.

A guy on my floor in college whose parents were multimillionaires used to order pizza, girls ate free, guys had to pay $1 a slice. Doesn't hold a candle to some of these, but it's all I got right now.

I'd think proper etiquette is to extend the same courtesy to them as well considering this is supposed to be his best friend. It seems pretty absurd to me that this so-called best friend would pull a stunt like this. If his wife really was the only person this "no significant others" request even applied to, thats a massive slap in the face. How much could the additional plate have even cost? Surely <$100. Unless they were married at some 24hr drive-thru wedding chapel, <$100 doesn't even represent any appreciable amount of an average wedding budget.

Total scumbag move to single out his wife under the guise of budget issues.
THIS THIS THIS THIS

Seriously? Why is everyone jumping on this guy's ass? I don't care what the event was, unless its a bachelor/ette party or a bridal shower, both parties are always invited. They're a married couple. Don't single one out. Doing that is not only a disappointment to the wife, but an insult to the husband. Really, just a few more dollars and there would be no hard feelings. Especially when they are already spending however many thousands of dollars on the wedding in the first place.

sorry to rehash this, i just couldn't take all the bashing that ppl were giving him for this

Is that ethics? I guess I don't even know what ethics are, since I see them as pretty open ended. I can tell you that I'd be far more likely to rob a bank than sneak into a movie, though. I'd sooner steal a car to use in a drive by than try to steal some gum from a market. I'd sooner blow up a building than try to cheat in a home game. The little things are more wrong than the big ones because they just irritate the hell out of everyone around you and ensure that you're the last one saved from the burning building.
LOL

I feel like he was taking advantage of the bride and groom's good nature (or family's), when she could have just drank for free since they did offer partially open bar.

Seems douchey....yes or no?
This is gross and disgusting.
At my wedding, everything is top shelf 5 course chicken fish AND beef. I'm spending 250 a plate, and just thinking about this douchebag makes me sick.
What kinda man makes his own guests pay. What a cheap ass

That's rude man.

If you're gonna make a wedding, make it nice. When you make a BBQ at your house, do you make your guests pay for their steak too ?
Comon, get real.
Making guests pay for drinks is CHEAP as it gets. If I saw something like this, I'd laugh.

I've been to maybe a dozen weddings and of those 2 had an open bar (very wealthy couple, very fancy wedding). Cash bar at a wedding is super standard.

1. My dad refills bottles (like A1 sauce) with water to resuse. It apparently tastes the same. I beg to differ.
2. I know a guy, when his car is on E, he only puts $2 in his tank at a time. I don't think once in my life I have not completely filled my car up. I'm already there, why not?
3. Any time my parents talk about money, it tilts the **** outta me. "Gas went up 6 cents!", or "I went to the store and bought XYZ, it used to be 59 cents, do you know how much it is now? 65 cents!" Seriously why are you telling me this, do you think I care?

I am the exact opposite of my parents, I will always buy the most expensive stuff. Probably not good either but I think it's still better than being/looking cheap.

Disclaimer: I may have a fear of looking cheap.
