I am now seeing a girl and asked her to go with me. She may not be able to
go the concert either.

So my question is, Is it a stingy thing to do to sell a ticket at a discounted price( 2/3 face value) to one of the other guys we were going to go party with after the concert?

He says I should just take one for free. I say it's not wrong to ask for something.

pick straws imo, and sell it for like 50% of face value and it is not stingy. This way you avoid having to pick a friend, and if its 50% off then it doesnt look stingy ithink. I mean it is understandable that you dont igve it away free. You might make up something how some random guy wants to buy it for 2/3 value, but you want to sell it for 50% of value to one of your friends.

I used to live with this couple (bad idea btw) when I was in college in Vancouver and they were seriously the stingiest people ever! Both of them, in fact! Actually, I'm not sure if they were just stingy or selfish or taking advantage of other people as they'd frequently buy stuff for themselves and even drove a Z4!

I got a couple of stories, but just to give an idea on how stingy they were; they'd frequently not eat to save money (i.e "are you still hungry?" "yeah, but lets not eat, it's quite expensive").

On one occasion they wanted to go for a road trip somewhere further with one of their friend and decided to borrow another friends car which fitted more than two people. So they exchanged cars from an Z4 for and Audi A6 for the day. The A6 was given to them with the tank full. When they came back the next day and exchanged their cars back, the A6 owner was shocked by the extra receipt for the gas that was used. Also they returned the A6 with the gas light lid on while they tanked the Z4 up for the other couple.

Because I was sick of the crap they pulled, this was the last straw; so I called them out on it and all other stuff they had done previously. They paid back the gas price eventually...

No, your reads off. I make and have more money than you and am not cheap in the least -- what I was saying wasn't me speaking on what I'd do, but what I think most broke college students would do. I'd assume lots of broke/busto college students would turn down a stranger from using their shower and dirtying up their tub. Not even necessarily because of the money.

Too lazy to check the post, but I was assuming they all knew each other pretty well, and I think a college student would be more likely. A guy with a family and kids won't be letting his neighbor use his shower.

tbh I don't really like the idea of someone I don't know very well using my shover. I couldn't care less if it costs 15 cnts or not, I just don't like to have people in my home.

All because I don't think someone turning down someone else for using their shower is all that weird or necessarily related to money. You're on fire bud. These analytical skills must serve you nicely at the tables.

You're in the stingy thread giving your opinion on why you don't see a problem with a college student denying a friend a shower because it costs him money. That to me is stingy. If not stingy then it's something similar because you're relating to/supporting someone who wants to save 7 cents worth of water.

If you think the person is filthy or have personal reservations about cleanliness, those are completely separate from stingy.

I expect/am prepared to get **** on for questioning this very entertaning story, but I find it incredible that your pops could continue to get a press badge given the required credential check:

http://www.cesweb.org/faq/pressFAQs.asp#1779

and even if he could have slipped through a few times, isn't it peculiar that the organizers wouldn't get wise to somebody who is making off with a much greater than normal level of swag in a conspicuous fashion and check to see if he's from a legitimate site? I mean, maybe it's normal to scam a bunch of stuff from the show, but given the description of your dad, I'm guessing he wouldn't be able to help himself from making a comical scene out of procuring free stuff.

also, I'm not necessarily sure how accurate the results at archive.org are, but:

http://web.archive.org/web/200601071...tarreview.com/

assuming that's the right site, of course. I'm not sure it is, since the activity dates appear to be 2000-2008, but it supposedly archives all incarnations of the domain since 1996.

I guess it could also be:

http://web.archive.org/web/200401011...arreviews.com/

but this site doesn't even appear to have technology reviews, and it's been active for about the same time period as the other site.

I'm sure there's a perfectly good explanation for all of this, it just sounds so far-fetched is all.

skepticism aside, your dad has to be a ridiculous hoarder, yes?

1. I'm not sure if the website was called fivestarreview.com. It was something like that. I think I mentioned this in the story (that I didn't remember what the site was exactly).

2. My understanding of it is that after my dad was first registered, he doesn't have to re-register every year. His name and the business are in the system, and he just needs to go to some website or something each year a couple months in advance to "sign in" to let them know whether he will be attending.

3. He's not walking around with a comical amount of swag. These conventions are a freaking zoo, with thousands upon thousands of people walking around with bags full of free crap. The whole scene is pretty comical. So I guess I should say that the amount of swag he's walking around with is no more comical than anyone else there, so he doesn't really look conspicuous.

I think that there are plenty of youtube vids that can give you an idea of what the whole CES scene is like.

Also he might masturbate toward your shower drain while he is in there, and then when you use it later you're stepping all over his dead sperm.

Plus, he might be gay and thinking about the guy who let him use the shower, while he is masturbating.

For this reason I wouldn't let some random dude use my shower.

The reason for denying the neighbor a shower has something to do with whether it's stingy or not. If the reason is "hot water costs money", then it's stingy. If the reason is "I don't want some random dude in my shower", then it's nitty. Possible exception if the random dude is really gross or weird.
