I'd think proper etiquette is to extend the same courtesy to them as well considering this is supposed to be his best friend. It seems pretty absurd to me that this so-called best friend would pull a stunt like this. If his wife really was the only person this "no significant others" request even applied to, thats a massive slap in the face. How much could the additional plate have even cost? Surely <$100. Unless they were married at some 24hr drive-thru wedding chapel, <$100 doesn't even represent any appreciable amount of an average wedding budget.

Total scumbag move to single out his wife under the guise of budget issues.
This.

Specifically telling the guy he can't bring the wife to the rehearsal dinner is unbelievably bad. Can't imagine myself being friends with someone who would do that. Also can't imagine being friends with anyone who doesn't understand why this is unbelievably bad.

I know a girl that when she's at the bar she will take other peoples money off the bar and pocket it. Whether its tips for the bar tenders, or like a 10 dollar bill sitting out there to pay for a drink. Never been i n any kind of trouble or anything and shes not like a criminal or trash or anything. The group of us were pretty stunned when she told us about her bad habit.

A day or so before the meal, the groom who was one of my best friends & knew since we were young kids, informed me that dinner was for bridal party only and significant others were not invited. I was the only married member of the party & had been married for about 18 months at this point & was not going to go without her. Also, the groom was in MY bridal party & attended our rehearsal dinner. He did attend alone however cuz his gf at the time (now fiancé at the time of this story) had a previous engagement but she was invited.

So I made him aware that if my wife could not attend, I would not be able to go. He repeated that it was for the bridal party only so I didn't go. The wedding was a few days after and he didn't say 2 words to me all day. A few days a after the wedding he came by my house saying I broke wedding etiquette for not honoring his request. At the time I didn't know if this was true (it turns out its not) but I told him I didn't care and for $50 he shouldn't have cared either.

We have hardly spoken since. This was about 8 years ago...
Who hosts a rehearsal dinner and doesn't allow those invited to bring their husband/wives. That's the most ******ed thing I've ever heard. I wouldn't have gone either.

Not sure if this has been listed yet but I'm pretty sure it's one of the stingiest things we all do:

Paying 20 dollars for gas then having the machine slow way down and sitting there for an extra 30 seconds to get your last 8 cents of gas

I've seen this so many times when I worked coffee shops and it drives me nuts. The same kind of thing where they would order a large coffee, dump out half, and fill it up with milk. That's a Cafe Ole' and it's $.10 more and it doesn't fill the trash with hot liquid that will leave a trail all the way to the dumpster.

I only saw this once, but a guy came in and ordered a large coffee. He paid, then went to the milk/sugar station, poured half of his coffee into a cup from Starbucks, then topped off both with milk. I asked him what he was doing and he was a dick about it so I threw him out.

I've seen quite a few people use the same cup every day till it's falling apart. I get that one to a degree, being that a refill is $.50-1.00 and a large coffee is $2-2.50. But it's gross. You're almost drinking cup rather then a cup of coffee.

As weird as some of the things are in this thread, if you were to do a lot of them, you could save some halfway decent $ combined.

I don't understand why you would confront someone about this or throw them out.

We were an independent shop and took a lot of pride in that. I've been anti-Starbucks for years. Basically because I'm a coffee connoisseur (or snob) and hate what they do. Bringing in a cup from Starbucks (or any other shop) and using it to basically steal about 1/2 qt a milk is pretty sh*tty to me. It's not much different then taking that extra cup and filling it up with milk.

Also, the type of shop that we were, we didn't put with *ssholes customers, and it never hurt our business. I said "Excuse me, sir. What are you doing?" "Mind your own f*cking business". So I said "Get the f*ck out of my shop". Had he been cool about it, I'd have left it alone, but not if he's gonna be a dick about it.

Why wouldn't you just tell people that they're not allowed to bring the same cup back the following day? (even throw in some line that it's unsanitary and the health department doesn't allow it which actually might really be the case)

Haha. Oops. That's from years of shorthand writing on the cups while running the register.

This is really tilting. If they can program the machine to shut off at 20 dollars, why can't they program it to slow down at 19.95

While in college, one of my part-time jobs was waiting tables. One night four guys came in for dinner. I gave really good service. The bill was between $45 and $50 ending in one penny.

The group paid by credit card, giving me a 99 cent tip, rounding up to the next dollar. Incensed, I followed the group out the door, got their attention. I handed one of them a dollar, telling him "Keep it, you need it more than I do".

I walked back in, told my manager, he said "this time it's cool, next time you're fired".

Coffee shops encourage people to bring in their own mug or travel cup because it reduces garbage going to landfills. It certainly is an environmental thing and not customers being cheap.

i think most of u who want not to been seen as cheap are the actual cheap ones

"oh no he wants me to pay for my beer even though ive bought him one last week"
well either u care about that money and dont give him one for free or u dont care about money and u pay him and dont expect him to buy u one and be mad about it if he doesnt

maybe im cheap as well but i thinks its always best to be exact about money and that everybody pays his own drinks/meals whatever so there will never be a problem about it, as u can see ITT the "not-caring about money" leads to way more problems than the other way
