I was really tired one day last week waiting to pay for a $0.50 Daily News at 7-11 and pulled almost a dollar in coins from my pocket. The cashier was too incompetent to scan the barcode on the paper so she rung it in as $0.50 miscellaneous. She asks me for $0.54. Without thinking I bark at her that there's no tax on a newspaper and she has to fumble through a credit and a new transaction.

No chance I would pick up four pennies on the floor in my house, I'd just let the vacuum get them. Oops.

I'm guessing you just skimmed the posts and insta-formed an opinion (standard).
That they tolerated it doesn't make it any better. I'm not talking about how DD responds to his dad, but how his dad's behavior works relative to how I would respond do it.

this. these DD stories, from what I scanned, are more like a guy who likes to pull off elaborate hoaxes - and get a little something out of it - not really raw stinginess at work.

Double Down's stories are awesome to begin with but the way he tells them make them that much better. He writes well!

I'm assuming you mean actually outright taking something that one normally pays for straight up, like if he got caught he could be arrested for theft or shoplifting. No, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that the joy in what he does comes from beating the system at their own set-up, e.g. finding loopholes. Things like free bread at a restaurant, theater hopping, etc. Yes, I know technically that's stealing, but I think this thread has already debated both sides of that gray area to death.

It's more abusing the privilege of something that's being given for free.

Speaking of, oh man, I just totally remembered something I did as a kid. The bowl of mints/candy in the lobby of a restaurant. At the end of the meal on my way out, I would totally take most of the mints and stuff them in my pocket. I was maybe around 8 or 9.

FfVb FTW

I don't want to go through hosting and putting an image here, but the FfVb tools allow any user to be ignored. And it's even better--as far as I can tell, their posts are completely hidden, not just 'blocked out' with the "poster is blocked" message.

The thread that keeps on giving (with intermittent boring stretches about stealing vs stingy) Don't stop DD!

Didn't see anyone answer this for you DD, but you get VHS tapes transferred to DVD at CostCo. If you're in Studio City there's one in Burbank.

Keep up the great stories.

LOL I think I've decided against it. But for anyone wondering what DD Sr. looks like, he resembles Jon Lovitz but with a Ron Jeremyish moustache, so maybe like a chubby Dale Earnhardt?
